Battlefield 3

I need to get on early enough to play along with you guys again.

Problem is, I usually don’t get on until 9 or 10 CST.

I saw 3 of you on a Team DM server last night as I logged on, but you were all gone soon after that, or so it seemed.

It’s a shame, too, because I actually have some sort of idea WTF is going on, now.

Only time I have been able to team with you all was my very first night and I was completely lost.

Anyway, hope I can hook up with you all sometime soon.

I’ve got about 40 hrs in on the xbox version, I’m pretty addicted. :frowning:

I’ve been playing this for about a week now on PC. BF:BC2 was my first battlefield – well, actually, my first combat FPS – game, so I’m still learning things. However, BF3’s singleplayer campaign was the first one I finished, and I was so entranced I played it all the way through in one sitting. (And then dreamed about it, afterward.) Even though the QTE sequences were easy, I enjoyed them.

Anyhow – how do I get on the SD BF3 train, and when do y’all play? My origin/bf3 name is zombieponies. (Incidentally - steam name, not id: zombie ponies)

We usually play at about 5PM Pacific. Friend request me on Origin and battlelog (RMcnally). Also friend SenorBeef.

There’s also the platoon SDMB 1920’s Deathrays that we’re all on. When you see one of us play just join.

Do you have a mic?

Yes indeedy. Is there a vent server? I didn’t read through the whole thread.

Yep.

I went through 200gb of fraps videos saved over the last few days to make room for more… and filled that all up again.

I have a lot of clips saved that aren’t quite worth posting on their own, but will be worth posting once I get a compilation of them. Like funny ragdoll deaths, or long range RPG killshots.

I have 2 new videos posted.

A short one: Scout chopper hits giant gas tank, then I hit it with a smaw
Anyway, *Interconnected Series of Tubes and I went helicopter whoring this afternoon. Helicopters are generally pretty weak in BF3 - everyone hunts them down, you’re constantly under missile fire, and your weapons are pretty weak. So the average time alive is probably around 90 seconds.

We had a flight that lasted about 14 minutes and we must’ve killed or disabled 20+ people and vehicles. I chopped out the slower parts and got it down to 7 minutes. I’m the gunner and he’s the pilot. So if you want to see what gunning is like or what a good helo run can be, check it out.

Also please thumbs up my videos if you like them and have a youtube account. I think it may play a role in whether the videos come up in search results or get put into related videos.

EA announced that BF4 has already started to be worked on, Personally I would have hoped that they would alternate between BFBC and BF releases.

Declan

BC is like BF-lite. I personally see no use for more BC games and wish they wouldn’t have made the existing ones in the first place and just kept working on the real ones.

BC are neat games, I had fun with both of them. BC2 contained a bunch of cool stuff that eventually made its way into BF3.

Yeah, but that stuff would’ve just gone into BF3 if it had been made sooner because they weren’t wasting time with the BC games.

Anyway, two new videos.

We had a fairly big SDMB game last night (11 SDMBers I think, the rest pubs) and I went on a kifing spree, leading to 10 knife kills in one round, which was probably like 1/3rd of my total knife kills to that point because I don’t go for them enough even though they’re awesome.

There’s also (from another game) when I got revenge on a knifer.

360 players: Everyone else I know bought CoD instead. PM me your gamertag if you want someone to play this with. I suck at this game so far, but I want to get better!

Alright, so I had one of my greatest moments as a BF3 player, a video gamer in general, and possibly as a human being*.

The situation: we’re the attacking team on Kharg Island trying to create a beachhead. But the defense is too well coordinated. There’s a supported tank team that’s wrecking all of our infantry on the beach, pinning them in bunkers, because we don’t have the heavy firepower to take it out.

We’re down to 6 tickets - meaning the round is almost over and we’ll fail if 6 people die before we set the charges on the M-Com stations. The game won’t end with an active charge, but it’ll end instantly if they defuse it while we’re at 0 tickets.

I manage to take out the tank that’s been holding us down and we were sitting at 1 ticket for like 20-30 seconds, and finally right before we get to 0 our infantry makes it up to one of the M-Coms and plants. A bit later, someone manages to get to the other side to plant on the other point. We’re at 0 tickets, so if the enemy infantry gets just a few seconds at the m-com stations, we lose.

The entire enemy team swarms the stations as infantry, and my gunner and I go to work on them, finishing in a rather epic and close defuse attempt on the final point.

I give you: the most epic rush save ever.

Be sure to use fullscreen and select 1080p, it’s much better than the standard video.

  • slight exaggeration

You’re ridiculously good with the choppers, I usually just use them to parachute to an objective to capture. I suck at turning them and cannot aim the rockets whatsoever without crashing, ugh.

I’m not too good yet, I just started playing with my joystick 2 or 3 days ago. Which, by the way, was a big difference. I thought I was doing alright with the gamepad, but it’s so much more natural to use a joystick. You should get one if you’re interested in flying - you don’t need anything fancy, but it must have a throttle and twist handle.

Battlefield 3 helicopters aren’t that nimble - their lateral acceleration and speed is too low, the power to weight ratio on the scout helicopters sucks, and in general the flight model is on the safe side of things rather than “let the pilot do awesome stuff at the risk of crashing constantly” side of things like Desert Combat used to be.

I used to be able to do awesome shit in DC like fly through streets at 120 mph, actually run people over for roadkills, fly through the narrowest of gaps, do 40 foot wide circles 10 feet above a moving tank while gently killing it slowly while he can’t spin his turret fast enough to keep up with me, etc.

Just to be clear Beef, you guys did ultimately lose that round to us defenders

It was still pretty epic though.

My favorite strategy on the big maps is to immediately get into the jeep and capture objectives. My ideal scenario is a casual stroll around the map without getting into any fighting. :stuck_out_tongue:

Usually on the big maps (Can’t remember which one it is, but it has 4 objectives on Conquest, one is a gas station, one is called hilltop and one is a part of the forest and A is a place where tanks spawn at the bottom of the hill) I can capture 3 objectives without firing a gun.

Think that is Caspian Border, or something like that.

Great map.

Not really - I mean, technically the round was “lost” because we didn’t get every m-com station, but when the round ended and the sides flipped, you guys didn’t make it past the beach, so I would consider us to have won. That’s the real criteria for winning or losing - otherwise both sides could lose or both sides could win.
