Battlestar Galactica - 1.1- *Open Spoilers* - "33" - the plot

Leoben was the coolest Cylon.

Except for the ongoing raping & mindfuck of Starbuck, I’d have to agree.
Did they ever have sex, though? He certainly messed with her head (and invaded her space), but even when he kept her as a house prisoner, I got the impression that he was way more interested in having her fall for him/have sex with him voluntarily, and that he never forced her.

Starbuck dreamed about the two of them making the beast with two backs, but I don’t recall them ever doing it in real life.

Not that the mind-fucking wasn’t creepy and misguided as all hell.
Just a quick note that the OP is still just 1 (okay, 5) episodes in. I know I’m someone that is incredibly tempted by spoilers, and BSG has so many slow developing plots that I’d hate to ruin anything, however unintentional.

One thing I wish they would’ve done is not reveal that Doral was a Cylon at the end of the miniseires. I think that would’ve really amped up the paranoia factor as Gaius basically sent an innocent man to die on no evidence. Plus, it would’ve been more of an “Oh shit” moment when he shows back up to bomb the Galactica.

Leoben being a Cylon is hilarious BTW, if you watched Due South. The show is about a Canadian Mounty who lives in Chicago and helps a friend of his, a street-wise Chicago detective, solve crimes (or drags the detective along on his various adventures). After the second season, the show got cancelled. The guy playing the detective got another job and moved, and then Due South got uncancelled. He didn’t want to break his new contract and have to move his family back, so they just hired another actor to play the character.

The new guy (Callum Keith Renee) of course looked and acted nothing like the previous guy (David Marciano), and in fact, he didn’t even drive the same car (a Pontiac GTO instead of a Buick Riviera). The Mounty is convinced that he’s a fake, and is distressed that nobody else seems to notice. It turns out that he’s another cop who has been planted to pretend to be the first cop so nobody notices that he’s dropped off the map when he went under cover with the Mob.

But yeah, Constable Fraser’s partner got replaced with a Cylon, and nobody else noticed.

I loved Due South. Don’t think I’ve seen it since its original run.

It’s a great show, with the one sad exception that it’s not really on topic for a BSG thread.

“So what is a Mounty doing on the Galactica?”

“Well, I first came here on the trail of the robot who killed my father, and for reasons that do not bear explaining, I now serve here, at the Canadian Consulate on Colonial One.”

I do have one question about FTL travel that I either don’t understand or is a big plot hole.

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BOTH THE SEASON TWO PREMIERE AND THE SERIES FINALE

So, at the start of season two, they do an emergency jump away from the Cylons. The problem was that the fleet had the old emergency coordinates, so the Galactica went ot a different place. And they couldn’t just jump from where they where to the fleet. They had to go back to where the Cylons were, figure out the calculations, and then jump to the fleet. But then, at the end of the show, the Galactica “randomly” jumped from the Cylon base to Earth. The fleet was a separate rendezvous point. So how did they get the fleet to Earth? Did they jump the whole fleet to the black hole and then to Earth?

I’m not sure. Wikipedia says(major spoilers)

After the rest of the fleet has been summoned, Lee suggests that they abandon their technology and start afresh

While the Battlestar wiki just says:

Twelve hours later, the Fleet jumps into the new Earth’s orbit as Galactica passes by. A Raptor came to Hoshi to guide them to new Earth.

Do they mean…

Hoshi took a Raptor back to…somewhere that the fleet was hiding and gave them the coordinates. If so, how far away were they from this new Earth?

Just thought that I’d put out an appeal, if theres no joy then I’ve lost nothing.

One of the stars of the original BSG, is my second cousin.

I don’t know if it was the film or the original series as at the time I wasn’t much interested .

I know this because my mum, and his mum used to write each other regulary.
I think that his part of the family were descended from the Scots side of our family, possibly Galitlley.

My mum was a Veck.

His family lived on an island off of California (seems they were all lawyers and doctors which is supposed to be a big thing in the U.S. apparently)

After the big break all he could get was,I think ,a play and possibly a t.v advert.
I’ve always ben curious, though mums long dead.

Just thought that I’d indulge myself.

And? Exactly what are you asking here? If you want to know who was in the original BSG, just go to IMDB and look it up.

What exactly is tour appeal? It’s not really clear from your post.

What is that supposed to mean? Like in any country, doctors and lawyers tend to be more affluent than, say, waiters and retail clerks. Other than that, I don’t know what kind of a “big thing” you’re talking about. Being a doctor or a lawyer doesn’t automatically make you a celebrity or dictator for life.

No I would like to meet my cousin.

Nobody here has a special inside line on contacting people from the original BSG series. Sorry, dude.

Lighten up mate.

No its not a big thing in the U.K., possibly because we have a higher standard of living over here.

I have visited the U.S. many, many times and travelled around it many, many
times.
I’ll bet that you’ve never even been to Europe, not even once, let alone the U.K

If you’re unhappy with the quality of your life then do something aout it.

But don’t lash out at total strangers who enjoy a more affluent life style then your own.

Sorry me old mucker but I’m not about to downgrade my standard of living because I’m racked with guilt, because you are by European standards living an underpriveliged, day to day life.

Try growing a set, DO something about it instead of whining about it .

Good luck.

I think this topic created some weird vortex where all normal social interaction breaks down.

Uh, what?

Tell me - in your extravagant European world, do you have access to imdb.com? If so, just look it up! If not, maybe you should reevaluate your perception of your cost of living.

I am considering breaking out the hard liquor even though it is only early afternoon, just so I can keep up.

This is the single strangest response I think I’ve ever read on this board. Wow.
