Battlestar Galactica 3.06 Torn 11/3 (spoilers)

I think we’ve noted Bodie’s somewhat Zak-like presence before.

Hybrids also remind me a little of the Guild Navigators from the Dune universe. It seemed like the skinjobs give the order to jump, but then the Hybrid takes a moment to ponder future probabilities or something and then selects the right moment to jump.

I snickered a bit when Baltar said, “it’s clearly of human design.” Uh-huh. And you know this because… ?

Is it possible the probe isn’t from the past, but from the future?

The probe is from the near future and someone figured out how to send it back to the past so it would be there?

Or, the probe is from the past and someone was prescient enough to know to leave it there.

Or or, the probe is from the past but it wasn’t specifically designed to kill Cylons. But it has some really sophisticated programming and it’s designed to only allow humans access to it. Although in that case, it’s kinda rude to design your probe to kill any non-humans who happen along.

I wonder if the probe is going to allow itself to be moved from this general area of space?

Unrelated nit-pik: I asked about it before, but I can’t help bringing it up again. Kaycee has been asking her mom about Kara. So she’s communicative. The whole time she was with Leoben & Kara in the detention facility she never asked where her mommy was? Weird kid.

…“and if tell Kara anything at all you’ll never see your mother again” works wonders on kids.

And I still say the probe was left behind by the 13th. Why? A beacon. Why is it killing Cylons? We’ll see…hopefully.

Yeah, that technique works great if you want a kid sitting there trembling with tears in its eyes the whole time, not so much if you want a happy kid who runs around the living room playing on the furniture.

I think in any universe that allows instantaneous travel over potentially unlimited distance (i.e. FTL jumping), it actually should be feasible to travel in time, at least under certain conditions. That said, there’s been no explicit reference to time travel so far in BSG, and I’m loathe to contemplate it. However, it’s tough to ignore all the successful prophesizing going on, and the cyclical nature of the Colonial religion. Could all his happening before and again be related to actual time travel, perhaps by some advanced alien species like the Lords of Kobol are suspected to be? Could there be a non-local capability in Cylon “projection” that influences the minds of people like Roslin and Baltar, who clearly have visions? In other words, are these “miracles” just the product of advanced technology? I’ve suspected it, ruled it out based on RDM’s own utterances, then switched back to wondering about it seriously, especially in light of this “projection” business, an ability with Baltar seems to have aquired, or at the very least is being influenced by remotely. I still just don’t know, but I think the potential for time travel as a device in the BSG universe must be taken seriously at this point, and these premonitions and visions are being beamed into people’s heads by someone or something.

We know people who take large doses of Chamalla root have visions.

We know Baltar seems able to project in much the same way Cylons do.

We also know Baltar appears to be dependent on drugs, although we haven’t been told what those drugs are.

It’s possible humans with high intelligence and/or the right drug are able to achieve what Cylons have with high technology. Leoben in particular seems pretty closely tapped in to whatever the Hybrids may already be conversant in.

I suspect the Hybrids are keeping their own counsel about a lot of pretty interesting things they either can’t, or don’t want to share with the rest of us. It wouldn’t be at all surprising to me if Hybrids turn out to have their own agenda.

NO, no, no and again, no!
That was overused in Trek.
Don’t give Moore any ideas. He knows if he does that, we will track him down, we will find him, and we will stick cigarette butts in every bottle of Scotch he will ever own.

We do? This must be something I’ve missed. Are you referring to the bottle of pills 3 game him? I thought that was just for a headache or something. Also, the guy smokes a lot, and I’ve not seen him light up on the Basestar, so he’s gotta be jonesing for nicotine pretty badly. Maybe those pills were also for that?

I think that was a sarcastic way of saying she had no place in the decision making process, being part of the ship rather than a “real” person.

She’s also apparently insane, though there’s disagreement among the Cylons about whether her madness helps her “see” more clearly or not. I thought 3 was saying she doesn’t get the vote simply because she’s not capable of participating in the decision making process like they can.

Leoben has totally twisted Kara’s mind around on more than one occasion, and has wormed his way into both Adama’s and Roslyn’s, as well.

I have no difficulty believing he’d be able to pull a mind-job on a little kid, especially one who’d probably been isolated with only Leoben around.

Somehow I can’t believe he has. There’s a lot that can be mined from his character’s current state of mind.

Am I the only one who thought for a minute there that Tigh and Starbuck would be frakking each other?

Possibly.

By that I mean possibly the only one to think that.

I believe he’s the only one who hasn’t…Sorry.

Maybe the hybrids are the result of breeding between two different models? If it ended in sub-optimal results (a being that looked human but had problems) then it might be consigned to basestar administration duty.

Surely “hybrid” is used to refer to a being that is biological and mechanical.

Aren’t they all sort of, though? “Silica pathways” and all that?

They better explain the “hybrid” idea a little better in a future episode, or I’m gonna remain convinced that Ron just ripped off Dune via Babylon 5.

Starbuck and Tigh? :eww:

I don’t recall anyone but Adama talking that “silica pathways” technobabble – and he’d be in no position to know.* And since he was talking to Leoben, the fact that it wasn’t denied is meaningless, as well; we know well that Leoben lies.

Baltar’s the one who’d’ve known to mention “silica pathways,” and he did no such thing. So I’m thinking this goes into the red herring barrel. Which is getting quite full.

  • anyone who come back with “Adama is teh Cylon!” rebuttals will have Centurions dispatched.
