Battlestar Galactica 2.7 — "Home, Pt. 2" (open spoilers)

As always, thread is padded with a content-free OP to prevent people from accidentally learning in the mouseover popup that Adama and Roslin have unexpectedly gotten married, sold the fleet to the Cylons as a wedding gift, and moved back to Caprica to have loads of squishy radioactive babies.

Spoilers: If it’s been aired, no need to box. If it’s future info you learned elsewhere, box it. If it’s speculation, no box. If it’s speculation based on actual unaired info, box. If it’s a Dr. Seuss book, fox in socks.

And label all spoiler boxes or otherwise indicate the kind of information that’s in them so we can make informed decisions about what we do and don’t want to highlight.

Did they send out octagonal invitations? Was Starbuck the best best man in the fleet? Were toasters ushers who opened fire on out of control, drunken guests at the reception (missing them all, of course)?

Okay, recapping the situation:

Adama is ending the schism. Will everything be happy-happy-joy-joy or is he still pissed at being betrayed, especially by his son?

Starbuck is back carrying both the Arrow and a weird unexplained scar.

The Boomer says she knows where the Tomb of Athena is.

Roslin is reluctantly trusting the Boomer, for now at least.

Zarek is setting himself up to succeed Roslin, which means Apollo is in his way.

Most of the above are planetside, doing heavily armed archeology.

Still no word on what Ellen Tigh thinks of Saul’s no longer being in charge.

Elosha: dead.

Cally: jail.

Tyrol: didn’t see him last week; wonder what he’s up to.

From the preview: Everybody seems to know now that the Boomer says she’s carrying Helo’s baby, and for obvious reasons hardly anybody is happy about it.

Think that about covers it.

Friday afternoons: the best of times, the worst of times. It’s the best of times, because there’s a new frakkin’ episode! But it’s the worst of times, because it’s not on frakkin’ yet!

Whew.

First question, no (who would they invite?). Second and third, yes, and yes, and then Starbuck killed them all with a swizzle stick and a pat of butter.

Not on frakking yet?
Are you splitting an infinitive again or something equally grammatically incorrect?
Pull over and show me your lexicon!

These folks have recreational chemicals.
All of 'em.

Boomers Redemption tonight, Adama allows Roslin to resume presidency (as in no longer in the brig) Zarek’s aid is a corpse after Boomer shoots his ass for trying to assassinate Adama/Apollo. going to take a nap and kill some time before some Grace Park goodness.

all of the above is pure speculation.

Zareks aid a cylon? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

So Boomer Realizes Zarek is tricking her and will kill the bad guys, saving Adama. Cool.

Something made me blink towards the end of the episode. What happened when Starbuck put the Arrow of Apollo into the bow of Sageterrion that suddenly transported then to the field with the Zodiac monoliths? And where were they?

(Spoilers added above incase anyone on the west coast is waiting to see the second broadcast.)

BTW, for a variety of reasons, I’ve been watching the show since last season on video, with a delay of weeks to months. Now that I’m finally caught up and watching as it airs, I’ll probably be posting in these threads often.

Right…and how did they get back?

Starbuck is the best unconscious teleport in the fleet.

It’s the chemicals, dammit, the drugs.

Okay, so they magically transported back to the (vestibule, waiting room? I disremember) of the tomb just as they transported away when Starbuck placed the arrow on the statue.

So is Six a chip or not?
I just hope Balthar (sp) has some sort of accident soon.

Erm…so the message I’m getting is that I really didn’t miss anything? It just happened? Am I going to have to stay up and watch it all over again?

That’s ok, I was going to do that anyway

On preview, re Baltar: Maybe he’s a Cylon sleeper who’s programmed to see visions Six. Ok, I don’t think so either, but it’s a possability.

Hmmm. They’ve replaced the Starbuck psychobabble with Balthar psychobabble. At least we know #6 is fucking with him (figuratively speaking), so that keeps it interesting.

From what I can guess, Dr. Balthar and Pr. Rosalind both have some kind of Cylon mojo that allows them a degree of sixth sense and precognition. They’re quite likely all being manipulated, and it’s quite possible the Cylons have been exploiting human mythology every step of the way to lead them into some sort of trap major trap…end of the human race, apparently. To be replaced by a hybrid species?

Dead Boomer clearly wasn’t completely dead, as erstwhile CapriBoomer answered Adama’s question to her supposed corpse. What did she do to Adama when he was strangling her? Was it really just his injuries? Or maybe I missed something she did to him with her other hand. It’s clear she was meant to get aboard the Galactica at any rate (though she clearly thinks she’s somehow free of external control). So what is the baby? A weapon? The next stage of cylon evolution? Both? What sort of parent will Dr. Balthar be to his spiritual love chile?

OK, I’m intrigued again, though some of the transitions in this show were cop-outs, and annoying for that.

According to the podcast commentary, Adama collapses because of overexertion following surgery.

The producers also admit they have no idea why Sharon says to Adama “You asked why!” or what it means. (Other than that it “worked” and injected a creepy note into the scene.) They (jokingly) invite viewers to send in suggestions for how this question could be resolved in future episodes.

Oops, I forgot. Watching it again and listening to the podcast, I think the field with the monoliths is meant to be inside the cave with the statues. The producers call it a planetarium and describe a scene that was cut from the script in which the Cylons attack, breaking in through the “sky.” How did the arrow make the grass grow, that’s what I want to know. Power of the Gods, I suppose.

Speaking of the Gods, it seems like they brought a spaceship to transport primative humans from Kobol to the 13 colonies (including Earth). Getting into Chariot of the Gods/Star Trek territory, if you ask me. But I’m more interested in what Sharon meant when she said the Cylons know more about the humans’ religion than they do. Why do the Cylons reject human religion and replace it with their own? What makes them so certain the Lords of Kobol are “false idols”? Maybe the Cylons, in moving to their own world after the first Cylon war, discovered the home planet of the Lords of Kobol and discovered that they are merely advanced aliens.

Here’s an even more impausible suggestion–what if the Cylons actually discovered that the home planet of the Lords of Kobol is actually Earth thousands of years in our future and home to the original humans who discovered the primative decendants of a long-lost colony and, using the names of gods from their own distant past, moved the warring tribes of Kobol to twelve other planets where they could live in peace until advanced enough to find the way home to Earth.

The Cylons, of course, having discovered this (and, apparently, having converted to a violent form of Evangelical Christianity) would have destroyed Earth, providing a dark and ironic twist to the finale of the original series!

Well, I have been saying all along that it may well be Balter’s guilty conscious.

When she told him that, I shouted: “Finally, Zoidberg is vindicated!”

Now I guess I can’t really say it, but I enjoyed it.

Random thoughts while viewing:

Interesting discussion on Cylon views of Colonial religion – “Your gods were real somethings, but not gods. We wanna know what they were, though.”

I almost didn’t recognize Tricia Helfer in her tracksuit and ponytail.

I still don’t know Sharon’s role in this. The scene right before Zarek and follower’s chat – the one with her and Helo, where she talks about her memories of her Galactica family and what not. I love that I can’t see where they’re going, although right now, Zarek wants Sharon to the actual killing.

Is she or isn’t she an implant? Is she real? “Will you stop going crazy in there?” Heh.

The Adamas’ reunion. A little misty there. And Billy and Roslin. Sniffle.

I loved Adama’s facial expressions when he saw Sharon, and I was not expecting his reaction.

Sharon and Tyrol. That has got to be awkward.

Zarek’s guy (what the hell is his name, anyway?) keeps pushing, and pushing.

I wasn’t aware of how much Adama felt he owed to Roslin. “Every day is a gift from you” is a pretty powerful thing to say to someone.

I don’t like where Helo and Sharon are going with this talk about matters into their own hands. Trust me, trust us, don’t ask – all of these are bad things.

Totally didn’t see that coming. Sharon killing the would-be assassin and offering Adama her gun. I loved the way this played out.

Heh. “Unless someone sees a keyhole, or whatever…” Exactly what I was thinking when the arrow was originally retrieved.

What? Where? Oh. I like this map. I was afraid it was gonna be a big piece of paper with an arrow, or something equally silly.

It is really good to finally see the commander of the fleet actually support the president.

As soon as I saw Sharon in the cell, I knew that we’d see Six. So she isn’t a chip. She’s an angel. And Gaius looks utterly terrified.

TWO WEEKS!? THAT IS AN OUTRAGE!

“Don’t let it go to your head. Adar was a moron.” Heh heh heh heh heh.

So, the plot definitely moves forward this week.

But… forward to what?
