Battlestar Galactica 1.13 — "Kobol's Last Gleaming (2)" (passion of the Spoilers)

Tonight: The second half of the two-part episode that concludes the first season.

Questions are many. Highlights:

Status of Roslin’s cancer? Any more visions?

Does Starbuck actually leap all the way back to Caprica in one go, or did we mishear that part?

What is this Arrow she’s retrieving, and is it significant that it shares Apollo’s name? (Maybe she was frustrated in getting hold of Apollo’s “spear,” so the arrow is a backup. Ba-da-bing!)

Does she run into Helo? Is he still with Boomer? How will Starbuck react to the doppleganger?

Are we gonna get confirmation of what we all suspect regarding Boomer banging Helo?

Will Adama be pissed at Roslin for basically subverting Starbuck behind his back?

Who survives the raptor crash on Kobol (if it is Kobol)? What transpires there?

Baltar was going bonkers in the crippled raptor; is he any more or less crazy on the surface?

What happens when Starbuck returns the Arrow? Does sticking it in Athena’s Hoo-ha actually do anything?

Or is Apollo’s Arrow a sideways reference at whatever crackpot scheme the Adama boys cook up to knock down the Cylon base ship?

Any actions by the supporting characters (Ellen Tigh, Tom Zarek, Laura’s Adorable Tousle-Headed Aide), or are focusing we on the main cast for the final ride?

Who lives?

Who dies?

Who gets naked?

And most importantly, how are we going to deal with the months of waiting until season two starts this summer?

Spoiler policy: There are no more aired episodes, so we’re all even with viewers in the UK. Random speculation doesn’t need to be boxed, but if you’ve seen an interview or other next-season preview type stuff somewhere and you want to speculate from or share actual knowledge of future events, please label your spoiler so we know whether it’s safe to highlight what’s in the box.

I’m resisting the temptation to go through and answer every one of these questions for you, but I’ll at least do this one:

DOZENS OF NAKED BOOMER-BOTS!!!

According to the sci fi website here, what we’ve all been suspecting about Boomer re: her glowy spine time with Helo is true. (Scroll down to the bottom of the synopsis.)

I’ll be in my bunk

'Bout time you started this thread, Cervaise. You know, some of us don’t have lives and live for BSG discussion every week!

OK, that didn’t make much sense, but you know what I mean.

Heeey… I resemble that remark!

Not sure if this should be spoilered or not, but:

Speculation:

If Roslyn is in jail, does that mean Baltar is the president? That’s a scary thought.

Reply to speculation (from last episode-definitely no spoiler needed unless you don’t want to read the speculation for whatever reason… anyway):

Seeing as how he was on the shuttle that went down over Kobol, the likelihood appears dim that he will be president until that story is resolved.

HOLY SHIT!!!

Sorry, just finished watching the last scene on the Galactica’s bridge. My jaw just dropped. Frack! I will not be able to wait until July.

One more thing, do you think they’ll put Adama on a feeding tube?

No kidding! I almost don’t know which outcome to hope for, in regards to that last scene (which I am not mentioning for a while–you know to give folks time to watch it).

But honestly, what other show would have the guts?

WHOA!

July is lookin’ like it’s a long way off.

Frak ME!, now THAT was completely unexpected…

just when i thought there was no show that could surpass my benchmark scifi show (Farscape), i find a show that’s just as good as 'Scape, if not <grits teeth, chokes it out> better than Farscape

considering i consider 'Scape to be my gold atandard, BSG is definitely tied in first place

talk about setting up high standards for S2
seems like the inside of the BaseStar is rather…meaty, looks like the Toaster models are truly obsolete

it’s clear that the current line Cylons are biomechanoid/cyborg in design

wonder if the “future of humanity/cylons” Six was showing Balty was Boomer’s toaster in the oven, or was it the product of a Six/Baltar “recreating”

i predicted Starbuck’s “She’s a cylon” revelation last week, but didn’t see Starbuck getting stabbed in the process

seeing the BaseStar go BOOM! was nice

seeing G-BoomerBot “fulfil her programming” was completely unexpected and disturbing, anyone else notice her “oh God(s?) what have i done?!?” reaction as her “Human-Emulation™” programming reasserted itself?

on the Cmdr Adama/Lee Adama front it’s gotta suck that your father’s last words to you were of dissapointment, and it’s dissapointing that the last time you see your son was seeing him as a mutineer and a “failure”…
Absolutely unbelievable. I’ve never in my life been so affected by a TV show . I’m still reeling in shock. That hurt more than Obi-Wan Kenobi’s final light-saber fight.

Speculation and spoilers.
Could Cmmdr. Adama be the “dying leader?” Will he somehow get his life saved? What will Helo & Boomer’s love child be? And what is up with my favorite character(s) (Boomer)? Baltar? God’s plan?

This was the best episode yet, even with the cliched “Hero gets her butt kicked yet manages to accidentally kill the evil Cylon”
Amazing. July cannot come too soon. This show is amazing.

Now would be a good time to exchange tapes or DVDs of missed episodes.

I thought it nice that the Six Cylon on Capricia was hoist with her own petard, as it were.

Col. Tighe is in charge.
I don’t know if that’s good or bad.

So the Cylons let their base star get whacked so that BoomerBot could get close to Adama with a firearm?

“It’s a museum, so what?”
“It’s more than that, it’s home of the Arrow of Apollo.”
“What the hell is that?”
“You never liked history. C’mon Helo, it’s supposed to be the only clue as to the location of Earth.”
“Earth? What are you talking about? Who’s going to Earth? It doesn’t even exist! I’m trying to get back to Galactica. What I need from you is a way off this planet and a way back to my ship, and if you don’t do that, I’m going to blow your head off.”
“Why don’t you just shut up for a change? You’re only alive because I’ve kept you alive. If It wasn’t for me you’d be dead by now. So whether you like it or not, I’m your only hope of getting off this planet. So if I were you, I’d take that tough guy attitude of yours and SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS!”

Oh man. Grown up Scifi TV doesn’t get much better than this!

Yeah, “Shove it up your ass” is really great writing.
Right up there with The City on the Edge of Forever, “Let’s get the hell out of here.”

Wow. I didn’t see that coming at all.
