Battlestar Galactica 3.5 - "Collaborators" (spoilers)

My WAG is Adama didn’t know about Hera’s fate. That will put him between a really pissed off Sharon/Helo and a rapidly tap-dancing Roslyn.

OTOH, Adama did know but he can pull out Sharon’s “no I won’t tell you who the other Cylons in the fleet are” card.

I’d like to see Cottle catch some shit though. He always gets away with doing whatever he wants because he’s The Doctor[sup]®[/sup].

Gosh, now I’m not sure. There was a big discussion about the baby with lots of people present, Baltar, Tigh, I think, Adama, Roslin, maybe even Roslin’s chief of staff. Maybe I’m remembering Adama from that one, and perhaps it was just Roslin and Cottle who discussed faking the death. Need to re-watch.

This is where really tacky people say, “Um, no.”
But cool, polite people like me say, “I believe you are mistaken.”

Seriously, I don’t recall that Adama was in on it. It certainly sets up conflict between him and Sharon, she believing him to be in the know whilst he wasn’t.

Did I use “whilst” correctly?

Whilst of course you did.

If you’re not British or Australian, then, no, you haven’t used “whilst” correctly.

But. I have a cite. Well, two, actually, from TWoP:

deciding Hera’s fate

handing Hera over

No sign of Adama, Tigh, or anyone outside Roslyn’s inner circle. Well, if you include Cottle in her inner circle.

Which brings up, “Who would win, Dr. Cottle or Dr. Who?”
I think Cottle would flick his ash and kick Who’s ass.
Unless it was Tom Baker.
But then, what about the Emergency Medical Hologram from Voyager?

But I digress.
I meant to submit the kid from “V” vs. Hera.

Ah, frack.

Frak. No c.

Whilst we are on the frack vs. frak topic: anyone else miss all the other little BSGisms from the original series? Felgarcarb. Centon. Yahrn.

I understand Moore’s reasons for jettisoning them, but its not like they were difficult to understand. And they were kinda cool.

and I still say that frack makes more sense, since the “c” gives it more similarity to what it’s replacing. grumble

Well yahren could be used without to much confusion. In the mini-series when Boxey’s father is reading reports on Cylon Centurions the word yahren is used.

Well that settles it then. I must have remembered him being around in an earlier conversation. I think the discussion I’m remembering took place just prior to Hera’s staged death, though. Adama was saying something about how Cylon agents would be trying to find her, I think.

So…are we to assume Adama has no idea? That he himself thinks Hera is dead? Isn’t Cottle a Colonial officer? I mean, if only Cottle and Roslin know, and she and Cottle have kept that rather momentous decision from Adama, he’s going to be mighty pissed when he finds out.

I should have said “no one outside of Roslin’s circle besides Cottle” know.

Cottle doesn’t appear to give a frak whether his superiors are mad at him or not. As one of the only doctors left in the known universe he has alot of freedom.

I knew a girl from Manchester, England, who pronounced it that way.

I’m not thinking about Cottle so much as the relationship btw. Adama and Roslin, and the idea, quite apart from the other obvious issues, that an officer of the military is an officer of the military. I would imagine, givinen their history, such concealment would be taken by Adama to be a major breach in trust. That sort of thing seems to rankle Adama almost more than anything else.

Adama is sweet on Roz, and he’s shown he can forgive her a lot. I agree she’s continually pushing his trust though. Being a wuss, he’ll forgive her again and end up giving her a little peck on the lips.

The problem of what to do with Hera seems to me a political rather than a military issue. Rosilyn promoted Adama to Admiral, so I get the impression that the Colonial Military is subject to some degree of civilian authority. It could be that Adama was not in the loop because Rosilyn determined he had no need to know. He might not like that choice, but as a career military man, I think he’d accept it…just as he accepted Baltar’s decision to colonize New Caprica, even though he disagreed.

Just to be a little nit-picky…Tigh was the XO for the entire year that passed in LDYB part II. He & Elen only went down to NC on what seemed like the very day the cylons landed. Talk about bad timing. So Adama has had a different xo for about 4 months.

Perhaps he will consider the legality of taking someone’s child from them.

But the Cylon invasion changed everything!
