Anyway, those Colonial sidearms apparently don’t fire bullets, according to Moore’s handwavy explanations from way back in the Helo-on-Caprica storyline. IIRC they’re rocket-propelled bullets, much like the Vipers are supposed to fire.
Of course, they’re inconsistent in their damage – sufficient to take out a Centurion (through its armor, across a Caprica diner), but stopped by the astonishing tensile strength of Gaeta’s shinbone (through his pants leg, at close range).
Is there any reason to believe that the bullet was “stopped by the astonishing tensile strength of Gaeta’s shinbone” rather than just shattering Gaeta’s shinbone?
Oh, and I don’t think the Final Five will resurrect. If that was the case, D’Anna could have just swung by the hub and gone into the Forbidden Wing rather than doing all sorts of potentially suicidal trips to the algae planet.
“I would enjoy seeing that”, he mentioned politely.
I seem to recall special explosive rounds to take out extra bad Centurions, and seeing belts of what looked like 1cm brass cartridges for the Vipers. An episode where someone was sabotaging the ammo.
Oh, sure. That would explain why the leg had to go, too. But it also seemed a silly example of their guns only being as powerful as the plot that week demands, and thus was my tongue firmly in cheek while pointing out the awesome bullet-stopping power of Gaeta’s shinbones.
Well, it was actually from back when I’d dare the Television Without Pity episode threads. Way back, when Helo was on Caprica. Possibly from one of Moore’s podcasts. And, frankly, there’s no way I’m up for spelunking into old threads there. yikes.
hmm… this seems to imply that there are supposed to be two types of ammo for those handguns. Good thing for Gaeta that Anders wasn’t smart enough to load up with the good ammo, what with the crazy Cylon who’d kidnapped and abused his wife for months on New Caprica on board with them.
That’s the ammo I mentioned in a post above. Surely that would have just blown his leg off and killed him from shock. I suspect there is some poetic license ammo on board.
Speaking of which… anyone know how long the break between this set of eps and the last set will be? When in 2009 will the final 10-12 eps be airing? Considering that the last ep of 2008 will be called
Revelations
I have a feeling they are going to leave up with quite a shocking cliffhanger.
Consider that as late as January of this year, SciFi thought they were going to start airing the current half-season starting in March (I have the promotional card on my wall), and changed to April fairly late. So it’s way too soon to say.
Given the looming actors’ strike, though, I’m guessing the network will want to put a lot of daylight between now and the return of the series, just in case.
During the last episode, when Adama was about to meet Natalie, I swear he said “is this the one that shot Gaeta?” or maybe “which one shot Gaeta?”
So, I think Thrace, Anders, and the others decided not to make any mention of the mutiny and blame Gaeta’s injury on the skinjobs. That way, no one goes to the brig, and it’s not like they’re worried about the Cylons feeling betrayed.
I’m somehow thinking that an actors strike isn’t going to seriously affect Sci-Fi’s quality programming about Mansquitos and giant snakes.
… Dear God. BSG is delayed because they’re running a Memorial Day weekend marathon, isn’t it. Is it crappy miniseries, crappy direct-to-video monster movies, or unending old Twilight Zone reruns this time?
I don’t remember that line at all. And more likely he’d’ve been asking if that was the Six that shot whatshername Colonial rebel on the Basestar.
And that lie would require that Gaeta had been on the Basestar, which he clearly would not have been (since he would have been evac’d from the Demetrius). And using that lie would have required them to rely on both do-right Helo and bitter Gaeta not to 'fess up at the earliest opportunity – which would be pretty much a no-go from the start.
No, see, the thing is, the current season is scheduled to complete shooting in July. But the actors’ contract runs out in June. So if the actors go on strike, it will interrupt shooting. Which means season four’s second half won’t go back into production for weeks or months. Ergo, SciFi won’t want to schedule its return until they know they actually have episodes to show.
I thought it was “Who shot Gaeta,” and it was directed to Starbuck and Athena. It seemed like he was going to ream them out about bringing Cylons back, but turned it into a 'What’s the deal with your crew?" moment - At least to me. We didn’t see the answer. I don’t think it was implied they blamed it on the Cylons.
I thought the finale was set to shoot in the middle of June (I want to know when I can start looking for spoilers - I am bad ) But if there is the possibility of a strike, I can see SciFi purposely sitting on these eps a long time so they will have something new to show (and advertise) when they run out of scheduled programming…
“Which one shot Gaeta”. The whole point of the line being that Tigh assumed that a human getting shot would (of course) have been because of a Cylon - certainly a human wouldn’t have done it. Cuz we’re a big happy human family.
It was Tigh who asked right as Galactica personnel were boarding the base star right after Demitrius’s reappearance. There hadn’t been time for the whole story to get around to everyone yet. It was a hectic and stressful moment and most probably no one had yet explained what had happened to Gaeta. I doubt very much that they fed Tigh and Adama some made up story.
True. Tigh probably saw Gaeta on a stretcher on his way to see Starbuck, gets there, gets Starbuck’s assurance that it’s not a trap, and then says, “what the FUCK is going on here?!”
I am, as always, so very very late to these threads (it kills me that they’re there buzzing away with exciting discussion days before I get to see the episodes).
This episode was amazing, I’d even go as far as to say one of the best of all the series. Possibly this is because I’ve forgotten what good Galactica is like what with some of the lame episodes recently but I really do think it was that good. Not to rehash points others have made but my own thoughts were:

[li]As someone else said, the whole Starbuck seeing the hybrid again in her head as the Six was talking made me think that possibly Roslin isn’t the dying leader.[/li][li]Alessandro Juliani has an amazing voice. Whoever said that it annoyed him not only has no poetry in his/her soul they also have no sense of hearing! I seriously hope the actor makes use of it at some point because damn can that guy hit a note (this comes from someone who has had a year’s worth of lessons and has attained the rank of “not bad” on a good day - yes there is envy in my words).[/li][li]I don’t think the jump at the end (which was done brilliantly by the way, I watched it several times and thought the actor playing the hybrid delivered it so well) was part of the double cross, I agree that it’s either a reset issue (but if so why didn’t the cylons think about it before plugging her in?) or simply a reaction to being overrun by humans. I predict the jump will take the basestar to the nearest Cylon fleet for backup.[/li][li]Once again Bear McCreary shows he is the man when it comes to composing, the music in Galactica is always top notch and complements the scene perfectly (why yes I have bought the soundtracks to each series, why do you ask).[/li][li]Boomer seriously needs to go in the lock up after that - it made no sense whatsoever. Just how exactly was Hera in danger?[/li][li]Anders has been on that garbage scow for two months - just when the hell are we going to get our scene with him having a shower? [/li][/ul]
