So a few buddies from work and myself are planning on moving out into the city very soon because where we live now is boring as hell (we currently live in the Daly City area). However, I’m still relatively new to the bay area and have no idea where in San Francisco would be ideal for three (straight) males in their young 20s?
Ideally, we want to live where stuff actually happens. You know, bars/pool halls within walking distance, being around other people our age, among other things . However, the place we rent must have 3-bedrooms and at least a one car garage. And ideally, easy access to the freeway for getting to work in Brisbane.
So what areas should we be looking for housing in? Any districts to keep in mind, or any specific streets to keep an eye on?
The Haight has a number of roomy multi-bedroom flats of varying funkiness and is certainly an active area. I’ve known a few different people that have lived in such multiple residence situations there. However garages can be hard to come by there and parking varies from fairly bad to horrible.
You’ve described Daly City there. I’m trying very hard not to laugh out loud at the concept of a rental in SF having a garage. They’re rather rare, and you’ll probably find that any places that do have garage space will charge an additional amount per month for it.
Also, places in “happening” neighborhoods are even less likely to have garages. You’d need to focus on the Sunset or Richmond areas to find houses for rent, and the Sunset especially can seem like an endless expanse of nothing.
Lower Haight yall! I moved into my new digs two days ago and while we were still looking we saw a number of places available with a one car garage. Haight, Hayes Valley, NOPA, Western Addition, Panhandle. All potential garage having places. Seriously. Move to lower haight!
