Beans, beans- good for your heart?

Well, are they?

(Those who insist that beans are the magical fruit can go open their own GQ thread).

::Checks OP::
Reminds me of a little ditty about the musical fruit…

Beans are low in fat = Good for your heart
Beans are high in fiber = Good for your heart
1 Daily serving of pinto beans helps reduce cholesterol = Good for your heart

Beans are full of antioxidants and help stabilize blood sugars = Good for your body overall

As long as you don’t put salt all over them or refry them in fat, beans are excellent for you.

So let’s have beans for every meal! :smiley:

Beans = Gas = Laughter

Laughter is the best medicine:)

Not entirely on topic, but beans and rice supply all of the essential amino acids in more than minute quantities, as does soy beans alone.

Beans may be good for your heart,
But also good for a healthy fart.

They have some complex carbs (to say the least)
That you cannot digest,
Gut germs produce stinky gases, making them a feast;
But I digress.

Eventually your body adjust to the gas and it’s not a big problem after a bit.

Eat Fiber!!!

I would wager that even refried and over-salted beans are still healthier than the average meal in America. Certainly better than burgers and fries.

One additional benefit has to do with dieting habits in general. Because they have a lot of fiber and complex carbohydrates, they take a while to digest and tend to keep you feeling full for longer.
