Beat the Heat in the MMP

Adding insulation and switching to double-paned windows that don’t let a breeze through when shut has helped. Since that was included in replacing the siding (only one wall to go), it was kind of expensive and time consuming. So - maybe a misting system on the hot side of the house?

Wasn’t too hot this weekend to work in the yard. Getting close to having the construction debris cleared. I believe the last load has been gathered. Sadly, running it to the dump is going to be delayed. One of the neighbors came by while we were removing the old siding and asked if he could have some. We set some aside and three weeks later it’s still sitting there. Word has gone out that if it’s still there Friday, it’s going with the rest of it.

Why the Hell isn’t this made out of aluminum?

flytrap, have the candiru swum as far north as Tennessee. Cause I swear I saw one (or a cousin) in the river yesterday.

Rockin’. you share a birthday with two of my nieces, who will be 12 and 34 Thursday.

I keep cool in the summer with a wall unit AC or by going to the river, lake or cemint pond. The AC in the truck takes a few miles to get cranking but still isn’t too bad. Irk is almost over air conditioned and anywhere I go out to eat, I always take a big shirt or sweater to offset the meat locker temps in a lot of restaurants.

Happy Moonday all!

In New Mexico, the a/c is what is called a “swamp cooler” - and I still haven’t figured out how it works or what it is. If it’s really HOT, though, it’s not very efficient. This year, I got two stand fans that oscillate and it makes it very comfortable to sleep here.

We are having a very HOT start to summer here. Monsoon (rainy) season is supposed to start next month, I think; I sure am hoping it does. I honestly have not seen very much rain here at all, and that’s cumulative, the past three years! Hard to believe it, but I’ve actually been in NM three years this month! I do like it, although I miss my friends & family on the east coast. I think I’ve become pretty acclimated to NM. It’s a good thing, believe me.

Anxious to hear about BBBBobbio’s surgery and hospital stay. And very glad that he’s at home to finish recouperating now!

**tarra **- I can’t believe it’s been 3 years already, altho next month, I’ll be retired 3 years. Wow.

When water evaporates, it removes heat.
We rented a cooler than hung on the window of the car out that way in the Great Summer Vacation Across the Country. It was egg shaped and full of water. Water would evaporate because on the air movement across it, and it became quite cold.

Come to think of it, that is like blowing a fan across ice. It takes heat the melt the ice, and to vaporize some of the water.

The thread, after all, is about “beating the heat” of a semi-tropical Summer. :dubious:

Watch the skies! Er, water.

What a day, not doing much of anything.
I should get to irk, but I feel like being lazy today. I even took a nap.
I need to make a couple of phone calls, joy and happiness there.
My cell phone is getting worse about just cutting off calls for no apparent reason.

I had soup for lunch. I need some chocolate.

I am by no means a soccer fan but today’s Google doodle made me giggle.

I am so ready to go to da cave. Alas, irk is not over yet.

Huzzah for repairs covered under warranty! And huzzah for a 10-year/100,000 mile warranty! We’ve had our Sonata just over 2 years, and we’ve put 62K miles on it. With most any other brand, we’d be out of warranty. Yay, Hyundai!!

Howdy from da cave! Moanday has been survived. Dindin shall be leftovers from yestiddy cause, well, there’s leftovers from yestiddy.

Yay for warranty repairs MOOOOOOM!

Spent my hour on the phone with AT&T, here’s hoping they have fixed the problem with my phone.
I’m supposed to get a follow up call from them to see if the problem has been resolved.

Finally heard from the doctors receptionist.
I have pre-op testing on the 7th and surgery scheduled for the 16th. I thought this was a procedure, not a surgery but whatever it is I will be knocked out. That way I won’t see the instruments of torture.

Realtor is on vacation for a week so no looking at houses until she gets back. I haven’t heard from the one I put an offer in on, it’s still listed as active. I have no idea what kind of bullshit game the bank is playing, two Wednesdays ago was the closing day for offers so it shouldn’t take this long to get an answer. I offered more than the asking price so I don’t know what the problem is. It shouldn’t be that hard, take the highest offer and move on. I can’t imagine that they aren’t accepting any of them because I am sure I am not the only one who offered more than the selling price.

So SSDD.

Did a bunch of laundry today and practiced the alto clarinet. Not much else to report.

Butterfly for you enthusiasts.

Saw this fly fishing on Hermosa Creek, San Juan range above Purgatory ski area.
Interesting tail feature. He actually was much yellower.

Sari wow! Appropriate/inappropriate appendages shall be crossed re the surgery.

Midget I have a mental image of you sittin’ in a laundromat playin’ the clarinet while you wait for your laundry to finish. It amuses me.

Dindin is et and all the leftovers are gone. YAY! I have promised hamburger steak with onion gravy and smashed N.O.T. for tomorrow. Gotta have a veggie side for that. Hmmm… maybe succotash or peas ‘n carrots. Anywho, I have ground beast thawin’.

Looks like a storm could be a’brewin’. I hope so.

Nice pic** Lieu**
I try to get some but it never works.

Thank you Swampy, now I am getting nervous.

**sari **- the thing about surgery is that you go to sleep, and next thing you know, they’re calling your name and making you get out of bed! Nervous is natural, but I’m sure it’ll all be fine. Altho you might not have as exciting a story as BBBobbio, if he ever gets his butt in here to share the details…

We’ve got the car back, and they even ran it thru the carwash. Definitely glad it was under warranty, because it was a very time-consuming and expensive repair. Our guys said it’d be around $600 for them to do it, and I suspect the dealer would have been at least that expensive.

Afterwards, we went to Red Robin and I had the grilled chickie salad - man, was that yum!!! But now we’re home, chilling. Reclining to ensue soon.

Hmm, I should try that… Though my room is actually quite close to the laundry machines.

Time to recline. MWAH!!

FCM I hope I don’t have as interesting a story as BBBobbio.
I want no surprises, no emergencies, no complications.
In and out is good.
