I miss Beavis and Butt-Head. I remember going to a “Spike and Mike’s Twisted Animation Festival” showing in Toronto in the early '90s and seeing their first shorts. I thought, “These guys are pretty funny, I wish I could see more of them.” Then, about a year later, there they were on MTV, in all of their crude glory.
IIRC, the two didn’t go to school one day, and the attendance office called home. One of the two answered and said they both were dead. So the faculty is celebrating, and something happens where Beavis & Butthead decide to go to school to check something out. The principal (McVicker) sees 'em, and has a heart attack and dies. The two end up walking off into the sunset.
Just to add a little, they aren’t in attendence for 3 weeks, and it is not until then that McVicker calls their house. So, the faculty and students reminiscence about all the experiences they have had with them and clips from various episodes are shown.
to start showing the first seasons again? The ones that were taken off the air because some future Darwin Award Recipients would light a fire (fire! fire! heh-heh)–I mean, we now have South Park. And TBH, that makes B&B look like the friggin’ smurfs!
I read an interview with Mike Judge once, where they asked if Beavis and Butthead were based on anyone in particular. He said they were a composite of many people he knew growing up. He was then asked where they were now, and he said most of them were now engineers!
Remember the episode where Beavis thought he was pregnant? But really he just had to take a big dump? Huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh. At one point in that episode they’re criticizing videos and Yanni (of all people!) comes on. Yanni is at the piano playing a little ditty and he’s in a room full of attractive children. And Butthead says: “Life- what a beautiful choice.” ROFLMAO!!! (remember those commercials???)
BTW, I’ve been looking for a VHS of that Yanni video for almost a decade now! Anybody have a copy?
Oh…and remember the Halloween episode-Bungholio, Lord of the Harvest? Where Beavis ODs on candy at Anderson’s and goes on a rampage? “Trick or treat, son of a bitch!”
I have TONS of B&B wav files if anyone’s interested!
My folks didn’t have cable for the first two seasons of Beavis & Butthead. I’m willing to pay cash / donate blood / give my firstborn son / donate my valuable seed / swear allegiance / give my life for a videotape with all of the first season shows, and most of the second.
At one job, my PC was the most powerful in the company. So when people had database reports to run (some would take hours to extract and sort), they’d sneak into my area when I was helping someone else and hijack my machine. (For reasons I’m still trying to figure out, I’d catch hell from the offending group if I aborted the report, and top management would back them.)
It got to the point that I started associating every Windows event with a different B&B wav. The staff (this was for a major symphony) treated B&B as they’d treat nerve gas. I got my PC back.
As for Cornholio, every time I walk through the TP section of a supermarket, I can’t help but mumble, “I am Cornholio! I must have TP for my bunghole! Eh-hehehehehe!” Can’t help it.
“You know what I don’t understand?! Why do they call it taking a dump instead of leaving a dump?! After all, you’re not exactly taking it anywhere … Funk dat!!”
Beavis’ immortal Andy Rooney impersonation
The problem with the B&B episodes you can get on video is that they don’t include the music videos they watched - often the funniest part of the show - because of licensing problems. I agree that MTV would do well by re-running the old episodes - especially since they have MTV2 now - but all evidence indicates that they are skewing their programming heavily towards the teen-pop-porn-tease-cultural-apocalypse market.
Beavis & Butthead Do America made a lot of money and there are occasional rumors that a sequel is in the works. Keep your fingers crossed.
And for the record, King of the Hill is brilliantly written and absolutely goddam hilarious. I miss B&B but I am certainly not missing out on a good Mike Judge fix.
