btw according to Wikipedia, most Alaskan Guides ™ recommend .338 Magnum, not .30-06 (though I suppose it’s the same general idea)
The ‘man’ has also determined it may be a nuisance animal. He’s eatin’ up my catfish. It’s just a matter of time before he gets into the dog kennel or my chicken coop. Or up on my deck.
I’ve seen the Tim Treadwell movie. Man is that scary. A comparably small black bear scared the bejeebus outta me. I can’t imagine a guy seeking out getting close to a Grizzly bear. Nope. Not me.

I think I’ll pack the bear a. ‘pik-a-nik’ basket, when the Ranger comes he can just follow the crumbs and wrappers.

I went with the classic Rabbit and Winnie because I figured you don’t have a Brown Bear commonly referred to as “Grizzly Bear”

Did the game & fish officer say when black bears start hibernate?
I’d guess the bear is fattening up on fish before looking for a den.
Beck may not see it again until Spring. It depends on how far away is the bear’s den. He may go several miles looking for one.
The info on black bear hibernation is allover the place. Some say its not a true hibernation, that they den up and sleep a bunch. They come out only to eat very large amount.
Others say they sleep about a hundred days in the coldest weather. Lately it’s been unseasonably warm down here.
I believe this is why our bear is so active for a bit and then seemingly disappears for a few days. My theory only. I have no proof
Does “nuisance animal” = call the game warden?
I’m sure a call to the Game Warden is a rousing encounter with “Your call is important to us!”
And in the menu, there is NO number to press for “Help, the bear is chewing off my leg!”

The fish and game people are informed. A warden has given us a permit to remove the bear. The guys have been out the last 2 days stalking it. Lots of poop and tracks. The game cameras are set up. Mr.Wrekker removed his deer feeders. They think those may have attracted the bear in the first place.
I went out and talked to my catfish and told them to stay in the deep end of the pond :D.
I’ve been watching from the deck and my window seat inside. Nothing yet.
I’m keeping calm and carrying on.
I hope it’s not a female.
Black bears have their cubs in January. That’s only a few weeks from now.

I understand a bear is a threat to Beck’s family.
They think it’s a young male. I never heard why they think this.
