You know what’s really wrong with the SDMB at times? That it seems no one is ever willing to let anything go.
So Beckdawreck posted an OP here. Some people felt her tone and emphasis was trivializing a very real general problem and a particular tragedy and posted about it. Other people felt those comments were unfairly picking on Beck, that it was just her established style of posting. Beck defended her intention for a few posts, then said she realized she’d come across wrong, won’t do it again, and so far as I can see, she stopped posting about it.
And yet, here we are with five pages of people still snarling back and forth about it! Does anyone really think anything more needs to be said about it? Does anyone really think that THIS post from them about how they see it will FINALLY make those people who see things differently have some sort of epiphany, slap their foreheads, and declare, You are right! I was wrong all along! You WIN!
Because, based on all my experience here and the other places on the Internet, IT WON’T HAPPEN. All you can do is express your opinions on a subject clearly, you can’t force anyone else to accept them as the ultimate truth or something.
Fun fact: An argument hasn’t been won on SDMB since 1973.
You’re missing what’s actually happening. The first page or so had people giving the OP grief on the lame OP. The back and forth snarling is just a longstanding grudge between octopus and whoever saucywench is a sock of and members of the Giraffe board haters club like helena and cochrane. Beck is just the venue to fight it out.
Okay, just so I can update my score card… Are the haters members of the Giraffe board, or, do they hate Giraffe board members, like helena and cochrane? And how do you keep it all straight in your head?
There’s a section of the Giraffeboards called “Behind your back” which basically just has sequential long threads for snarking on the Dope. Cochrane and helena are regulars there. I was colorfully calling that the “haters club”

I can’t decide if GB is too meta, too derivative or too stalker central.
If that’s true, it’s only because if you don’t agree with the prevailing view at BYB, you’d get banned out pretty quickly so it’s easy to shut things down. Anyone saying that people should go there to talk about the issues there is being silly. You’d be banned after they all got their say and before you could say much.
At BYB, only certain people are protected from people getting too personal. The targets are not, except for real life doxxing. Neither board allows that.

As for the “reaching out” I remember DZ thought that was weird and stalkery at first. I think it was deemed an invasion of privacy.
And one wonders why it needed to play out in public and not in DMs.
This is the sort of attention-seeking pseudo-drama that makes some discussion boards close to unbearable.
Why does anything have to take place in a thread rather than in DMs?

It’s my understanding that dropzone noticed something wrong with their online communications and got a hold of someone who could physically check in on her.
It’s nice that you have a nice impression of yourselves. I’m not really a regular, though I do use BYB for thread spotting regularly.

I just posted a bunch lately because of the lockdown and my suspension here. My last Giraffe account that was banned is less than a year old and I went years since the account before that.
Btw, you’ll notice the link I posted includes “&styleid=1”. That turns off the anonymous skin you set up on BehindYourBack without having to login.
Yeah, before the lockdown you’d show up in the snark thread on Friday afternoon each week like clockwork and stay until Sunday night before disappearing, while during quarantine you were just a constant presence.
