So…Beck’s new album, Modern Guilt, is set to come out in June! Produced by Danger Mouse and somehow Cat Power is involved. AWESOME! I am an unabashed Beck fan.
First track - Chem-trails - is streaming on Beck’s website: www.beck.com
Thoughts?
I really like it. Seems to grab me more than Guero or The Information. I hope the whole album is this good. It has a little bit of a Flaming Lips vibe. I also like the heavy drum roll. And I like the electric guitar call-back at the end.
I liked Guero Ok, but it never seems to be in my playlist rotation. I never listen to The Information. However, I loved Sea Change, and I loved a lot of his earlier stuff.
I wish he’d make another Odelay. But I have high hopes for this album.
Beck is one of those artists that whenever I listen to him I’m always surprised at how good he is. I was just listening to The Information earlier today and enjoyed it immenselly. Guero was also great in my mind. Mutations, Midnight Vultures, Sea Change – Beck hasn’t made a bad album in my mind. Mellow Gold is his weakest in my opinion but it’s still got a lot of good stuff.
Cannot wait for some new stuff. I loved Guero and The Information (plus all the older stuff, of course) but this new one is supposed to be “different”. That’s a given, when you go with Beck.
Gonna see him up at the Outside Lands festival in SF in August (plus Radiohead and the Black Keys, OMG I think I just wet myself thinking about it), then we’ll see Beck again at the Hollywood Bowl in September. Yay!
Gah! I love the Beck of Midnight Vultures best.
Sea change to me is forever “the Most Depressing CD I ever Own”.
I like it, but I can’t listen to it. It just makes me feel sad. I think i’ve gotten through it ALL the way maybe 2x and that’s it. I just can’t listen to the whole thing. But the *Midnight Vultures *and *Odelay *albums were GREAT, with MV going into my Fav. albums ever rotations.
I thought *Guero *was strong too, and almost like he was getting back to his *Odelay *roots. *Information *though was kinda meh for me. I’ll prolly get this CD though but I’ll have no expectations though.
While the one track seems to have more of Sea Change’s qualities, dreamy and moody, than the Odelay and Mellow Gold I’d prefer, it still sounds good and can’t wait to hear the rest. (I wonder if even Beck could ever make another Odelay though.)
