Beetle Bailey ''Name the Tech Officer'' contest.

http://www.beetlebailey.com/

So there’s a contest to name the new geek–er, tech officer–character in Mort Walker’s Beetle Bailey. Link provided above.

So, what do you think? Looks kind of like a “Bud” or a “Buzz” to me. “Clem” might work, but doesn’t imply anything geeky–er, techie.

Well, I guess there are a few days left. Something may come to me…

Theres already a Lt. Fuzz, so “Buzz” is probably out.

He looks like a “Chip” to me, but I’m not a U.S. resident so I can’t enter the contest.

Hmm, just checked and Mort Walker’s already using “Chip” as a name in his other strip “Hi & Lois”.

Oh, well, I’m more of a Dilbert man, myself.

Maybe the officer shuld be a woman named Dot.

“Hymie.”

Does anyone besides me find this contest so lame that it makes me turn to “Mallard Fillmore” for diversion? And I always thought I’d claw my own eyes out before doing that!

Debij entered Lt. Gizmo Mobetta

Lt. Mike Twidget.

Navy vets like me would understand.

I sent Mort Walker fan mail as a kid. The man was nice enough to respond, including critiqueing my cartoons. This was a very nice thing for him to do for a ten year old maladjusted geek.

I entered, and gave him my father’s first name Harold because Dad complains it is so often used as a “geek” name.

Major Snafu

I voted for “Sparks”. It seems to fit the camp, you know. Bit out of date.

raises hand

I’m SO glad that the Dallas Morning News has dropped this strip. They still carry the lame “Hi and Lois”, though, as well as Johnny Hart’s strips. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram carries both “Beetle Bailey” and “Mallard Fillmore”. Gah. On the other hand, the StartleGram does carry some of the Sunday strips that the DMN doesn’t carry, such as “Sherman’s Lagoon” and “Baldo”.

[sub]decides to go ahead and say it anyway[/sub]
My father’s name was “Hymie!”
[sub]Bastards. See if I feed any of YOU the straight line.[/sub]

Wow. You have access to “Beetle Bailey”, “Mallard Fillmore”, “Hi and Lois”, and “B.C.” all in the same metro area? Next you’ll be telling me they’ve got “Nancy” too! The horror! The horror! Thank god for “Get Fuzzy”!

How about [bb]Delbert**?

It’s strange. A year after the Army started wearing berets, Beetle and the lads haven’t tried them on. Amos Halftrack is hiring an alpha geek, though. Naming him by committee is the Army way, isn’t it?

How about:

Unfunny McLame
Nial N. Decoffin
Mort S. Outatouch
Zats Pathetic
Oop Chuck
Kilme Now

Yes, I know they all suck.

The uniforms in Beetle Bailey haven’t been accurate for decades. We don’t even notice anymore.

And this week’s Army Times does feature the Camp Swampy gang in badly-fitting berets, as an illustration for a story on how to wear the damnable thing properly.

Well, we don’t have Nancy, but we DO have The Lockhorns. And Ziggy. Can’t forget Ziggy! And Prince Valiant on Sundays.
