A friend of mine recently came across a video collection on Youtube that is best described as ‘nostalgic’, ‘unintentionally hilarious’, ‘cringeworthy’, and, well, ‘Brooklyn’. Apparently back in the 1980’s, a man named Frank Masi decided to host a public access show for various local acts to showcase their, erm, talents.
The results include heartfelt ballads, Billy Joel hits being mangled by small children, a dramatic monologue by a young lady who feels very strongly about cinnamon(?), some trippy video effects, and very 80’s wardrobes.
I guess a few years ago this was highlighted on NPR, as one historian became fascinated with his memories of this show and decided to learn everything he could about its host, eventually leading to enough interest that someone bothered to put the clips up online. Well, Mitch Friedman, I salute you.
