I’ve drifted away from comics the last couple years, and haven’t been in the loop. But something caught my eye when I was browsing through i09 today. I’m just a casual fan of “The Watchmen” but a huge fan of Darwyn Cooke, so I was really suprised to see that he’s going to be involved in a few “Before Watchmen” projects. Here’s an interview with him on his progress:
I don’t know how to feel about this. I thought I’d absolutely hate the idea of anything being added to “The Watchmen”. It’s a perfect ecosystem as it is. But if you’re going to backfill any history, I think the Silver Age look that Darwyn has mastered is an excellent choice for the “Minutemen” series, and his work on the Parker books shows his talent for finding a good “noir” voice - making him a good choice on “Silk Spectre”. He writes women incredibly well, and his insistence on Amanda Conner doing the art shows he’s intent on making this a slam dunk (or at least, as much of a sure-thing as a “Watchmen” prequel could possibly be).
