Behind the Music Subjects You'd Like to See

Some installments of this most excellent series have been informative (Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, Weird Al), some have been shameless promotion for the act’s current album (Madonna, Tiffany), some have dealt with acts that I’ve never heard of (the upcoming Badfinger), and some have been about acts that probably didn’t deserve an hour of airtime (Rick James).

So, what acts would you like to see on VH-1’s Behind the Music?

I hereby suggest:

Styx: Interesting to hear about Dennis DeYoung’s departure and about Chuck Panazzo’s death

Kansas: How they got the name, what inspired Kerry Livgren to write Dust in the Wind

Rush: Maybe I can gain some insight into what all the fuss is about

Yanni: Why not?

Who else?

Styx has already been done, actually. It aired about a month ago, and was quite interesting, I thought.

Kansas’ name is no mystery: the original members were all Kansas natives, and the band was formed there.

I’d like to see them profile Anthrax. They were never big on the pop charts, but they were one of my favorite bands growing up (the others, specifically Def Leppard and Metallica, have already been done).

The Dead Kennedys would be interesting, particularly with all of the recent legal wrangling the ex-members have gone through.

I liked Weird Al’s, No Doubt’s, and Def Leppard’s episodes, but I’d love to see Journey, Prince, Green Day, and Third Eye Blind get dissected. (Journey and Prince may have been done already for all I know, though.)

I was pleased to see BNL get their own episode last month. They joked later that the episode airing marked the beginning of the end of their careers.

Ohh dear…
Baby Blue
Come and Get It
Day After Day
No Matter

and the original Without You

Signed to Apple Records. Personal tragedies included depression, suicides and bankruptcy. Great band that never lived up to its potential. I’m watching this one.

Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.

Ah!

The Residents, of course.

That would be fun, but I wouldn’t want to see them without their eyeballs.

good one!

I’d like to see

Iron Maiden
Motorhead
Rush
I could think of a load others but no one would be intersted. come to think of it I haven’t been to intersted in a lot of them lately. Who the hell does bands that have only been around a few years?

Crosby! Columbo! and Vallee!

Sex Pistols
Ramones
Deep Purple
Devo
Van Halen
ZZ Top
Beastie Boys
Judas Priest

Took them long enough to do AC/DC.

XTC! Great band, great new record this year, been around forever, dramatic label battles, broken marriages. Perfect. Well, except for the fact that they haven’t toured since 1982. Otherwise, a total home run.

Aw, you beat me to it, Sliv! It’ll probably never happen, since they’ve probably not considered well-known enough, but you’re absolutely right. Their story would make a great episode.

Off the top of my head…

XTC (good call)
Joy Division/New Order
Bauhaus
The Tubes
The Smiths
The Pixies

Definitely! And I for one do want to see them without their eyeballs.

Hmm…that probably sounds a little odd to people who don’t know who they are.

GG Allin. But I’m not holding my breath for it (unlike his live shows) as they’d have to stick a black box over the screen 90% of the time.

The Cure

Depeche Mode-I know its been done, i only saw part of it, but they rerun the damn thing, but they show the one of 80s metal bands and 70s teen idols every other week!!

These guys better be Legends, not just regular Behind the Music. . .

I second the Beastie Boys, though, and add the B-52s.

What?!? There was a Tiffany one? Man, I can’t believe I missed that…I am like her biggest fan of all time!!

Tesla
The Bauhaus
KMFDM
The Cult

Kate Bush - It would be extra nice if she was promoting a new album at the time. Is she ever going to do a new album?

Bauhaus - I’m surprised they haven’t done something about them yet. Goth is very trendy these days. So trendy I may have to stop wearing black.

Nine Inch Nails - They could do a whole night - NIN, The Cure, Bauhaus, etc.

I think they should do Behind The Music, Obscure Bands and show it late at night. Then people who didn’t know what was happening would think they were in the Twilight Zone. “Hey look, it’s Duran Duran. Was there someone named David Sylvian in that group? And what do they mean he was lead singer of Japan? He was lead vocalist for a whole country?”
