I take it you’ve never worked as a “service professional” as you are much to much of a cast iron bitch to have lasted more than a week. Another data point in the campaign to make everyone work at least one week a year as a waitron/some other service professional.

I don’t know I generally get pretty reasonable service at McDonald’s. Certainly within the commonly understood level of service from fast food restaurants.
Salads coming after the main course sides late that is fucked up service for an $80 meal. This is very far outside the bounds of commonly understood level of service for a nice restaurant.
And abusing the staff did help they got their meal comped.

Yes, it is. But these were remarkable circumstances, and they were dealt with by management. Sometimes shit happens, which results in unsatisfactory results (in this case, service). Were there no attempt to make things right, I might agree with you. But they got their meal for free. At that point they should quit their bitchin’.
Everyone got their meal comped. Even those of us who were nice.
Continuing to abuse the staff after the meal was comped is really my issue here. At that point it’s just assholishness for the sake of assholishness. (Sounds strangely familiar*.)

I currently work as a test/troubleshooting tech at a power-quality equipment manufacturer. I make considerably more than either a McDonald’s employee or Mythbusters researcher. 
Oh, sure, most of the time. But I’ve had enough fuck-ups getting food there that they’d be outta business if things were as black and white as CS likes to pretend they are.
The restaurant they were at was Krieger’s, a chain sports bar. I’ve been there a few times. The average price for a meal is more like $10-15. I think the OP meant the table’s total bill including beer was maybe $80. Kriegers isn’t bad, but it’s on par with places like Applebees.*
*if the OP was in fact actually at some other upscale place also called Kriegers, ignore this post
It’s probably worth pointing out that Krieger’s is a bar and grill type place, and probably wouldn’t go on anybody’s list of “nice” restaurants. It’s perfectly servicable, but nowhere near high end.
I say $80 (which is entirely a guess) because there were four of them eating steak (one pasta) and salads, and drinking beer. I figure a steak and a couple of beers comes out to about $20.
I didn’t mean to imply that they each had an $80 meal.
