Although Norbert Pearlroth never missed a deadline, King Features replaced him in 1975, forcing his retirement at age 79. As a freelancer, he received no pension and no royalties from the many collections and reprints.

King Features ran a Ripley’s today, discussing Pearlroth with pride. They didn’t mention cramming a barge pole up his yin-yang with that retirement stunt, though. These coroporate shits have crust, I’ll tell ya.

We can’t get him a pension, but he had the Spirit Of The Dope, & may have been blood kin to Cecil Adams. He’d have made an excellent Doper.

He’s not being pitted, it’s the guys that shove the pole up his yin-yang that are.

He sounds like a pretty dedicated individual but I think his wife must have been even more fanatically devoted. When did he actually see her? For 52 years, six days a week, he went into work in the morning, left work at 10pm and even worked a lot on Sundays as well. It sucks that he wasn’t rewarded better upon retirement though.
