What is it about this that makes people second guess experts.
This is what happened, someone in the other thread also couldn’t come to terms with the idea that it’s a mistake so I explained it with a simple graphic:
That’s probably the most likely explanation (at least, it’s hard to find any other explanation that fits at all), but I’m still puzzled why a graphic of the US would have the states as separate objects, instead of grouped.
It could be so if it’s designed to be linked to a data table to be turned into a vector infograph for example showing the states as column graphs, or for creating a cartogram. Not familiar enough with the formats as to what would the campaign’s grafix people be using for that.
A vector graphic is comprised of discrete shapes. Kind of like a stained glass window. Each color is a shape of its own. At least for a simple image.
I’ve made vector maps before, and it makes sense, since the states have borders and you’d likely want to color individual states for whatever purpose you’re using it for, for each one to be its own object. It can be grouped after the fact, so that you move one, and they all move, but it looks like their designer either undid the grouping or it didn’t start that way.
The map being in a vector format does not imply that the states would be discrete objects, and it would be simpler to make it all as one object. You could still fill in the regions between the lines in different colors, and if you wanted to store the locations of the various states in a database, you could easily just give the coordinates for any one point within the boundary of each.
That’s not how graphic software works of the sort that would be used by this designer works. It would be best practice to create the image by making each state as one object. That allows you to manipulate the states individually.
Graphic software doesn’t typically refer to a database file to color sections of it. A vector image file is made up of one file, typically an EPS, PDF, AI, SVG file. That file contains the data necessary to reconstruct the image. When you download a file from a stock art site, you get that file, and that’s it. You could do a live paint, which would allow you to color in-betwen lines, but it’s a needless step if you create the file appropriately in the first place, would needlessly increase the file size, and would be prone to small errors. And it would end with the image being made of different shapes.
If you got a map that was one object, it would be one color, or a gradient.
You’ll be shocked to learn that Dr. Carson’s plan is not what one might call “workable”. This column reads like a hasty attempt to shore up Carson’s credentials as a deep foreign policy thinker, written by someone who spent the last 24 hours desperately trying to come up to speed on the situation.
It’s about time to give up hope with Dr. Carson. When your staff starts complaining that no matter how hard they try you just aren’t getting it, then maybe it’s time to find another line of work.
It is even more sad that among the Republican candidates Carson was the only one that currently polled better against Hillary in the hypothetical match ups.
Sad in the sense that there are so many republicans that are low information voters.
Actually, most of the likely nominees poll better than Clinton. Three states got polled yesterday, Colorado, NH, and Florida, and most Republicans lead Clinton in all those states.
Rubio is now the strongest candidate, leading Clinton by 7 in NH, 16 in CO, and 7 in FL.
I was talking about the whole USA. But what you pointed out was also another sad thing, Rubio will be a candidate that will make many tea partiers sit on this election. And he still has to go over Carson and Trump who are the darlings of the low information voters.
Again, moot point unless Rubio gets ahead. If Rubio gets over the blow hards Clinton and the democrats just need to make ads about how good Rubio was with immigrants and we will see a lot of his support evaporate. BTW seeing Rubio just ahead by 3 points in the aggregate in Florida is really embarrassing for Rubio.
There was never a time to put any hope in Dr. Carson unless you were a patient of his. But good to see you come around at last, even if it takes an extreme situation to make that happen.
I never supported him so much as I was hoping he’d pick up politics the way he did neurosurgery. If Carson became knowledgeable in fall 2015 it wouldn’t matter what dumb things he said in spring 2015.
It took him more than one year to become one of the top neurosurgeons in the country. Carson’s big splash into politics was his speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast. He officially announced his candidacy in 2015, just 2 years later. Not enough time to learn politics at the Presidential level. Not enough time to learn any academic discipline at the level of a beginning grad student. It’s one thing if you or I didn’t realize that, but Carson should have seen it that way and run for something else in his very first political campaign.
