Bengals fire their offensive coordinator

FoieGrasIsEvil should be pleased.

I guess Carson got his way. We’ll have to see if this quiets him down or not.

I am quite pleased because at this point, almost anyone with half a brain could have called a better offense than Bratkowski.

I still have reservations about how this is all going to shake out with Marvin, Mike Brown and Carson Palmer. Hopefully this was just what Carson was trying to do, to get Mikey boy to blink.

Its hard to say though. Since the Bengals were coaching the North in the Senior Bowl, I believe they had to wait to fire the guy as they needed an intact coaching staff in order to continue to run the North squad.

Time will tell but this is what I and legions of Bengals fans have been calling for, many for a few years now. I think the Bengals offense can be dynamic again with a scheme better suited to their personnel and that has a little imagination behind it.

The Bengals have hired Jay Gruden, brother of former NFL coach John Gruden, to be their new OC. Jay was a UFL head coach for several years. Interesting move.

It’ll be funny if the Bengals get on MNF and we get to hear Jon Gruden talk about what an offensive GENIUS his brother is.

too bad, the Eagles could have hired him for their defensive coordinator

Man, what a fucked up franchise. I never really understood the “Jon Gruden is an offensive genius” meme that has been out there since even before his Super Bowl season but at least he’s won in the NFL. What Jay has done to earn this position is a mystery. I suppose he’s probably a personable and energetic guy like Jon but I can’t imagine he’ll command much respect from Carson. If anything he might get bulldozed by him. Certainly if TO and/or Ocho are back it’s a disaster in the making. You can hear the UFL jokes already.

That said, I remember watching Jay Gruden coach in the Arena League and he was pretty damn good and his teams kicked ass. Not sure that translates at all, but it’ll be interesting to watch. Anyone think that if Marvin Lewis get’s shitcanned after this season that Jon Gruden could be a candidate in Cincy because of this? That might actually be a good thing because he’d be able to wrest enough personnel control from Brown to actually make their roster look better.

Well, if by “several” you mean “two”, since that’s how long the UFL has been around.

Nevermind

Oops. Arena League. And Jay does have some NFL coaching experience, as an assistant on Jon’s staff for a few years, albeit not at the coordinator level.
