Benghazi Attack for Dummies.

So, Magiver, there are a lot of people who know what they’re talking about who think you’re misguided about your opinion.

Maybe they’re right, and you’re wrong. Ever think about that possibility?

Because to succeed in order to save the two former Navy Seals Magiver’s Special Operators would have to be trained to intercept an incoming mortar shell and prevent it from hitting the roof of the CIA Annex.

Now maybe Superman could have bounced the incoming artillery shell off his chest in mid-air but even Superman would have had to be right there at that exact time. There must have been other emergencies that occupied Superman’s attention at that moment in time.

The issue isn’t that it’s “offensive”, whatever the hell that may mean - but it is deeply dehumanizing. Dehumanizing “the enemy” is fine and dandy when you have to shoot at them. To each his or hers coping mechanism with the inhumanity of Man.

It’s not OK to still be doing it 20 years later.

(Second bolded part mine)

“Ready 24/7” does not mean fully equipped and sitting sitting on a taxiway ready to take off at a moments notice. You have to take more into consideration than just the transit time.

Oh, and from the context of the conversation, I was able to tell the difference between “forward deployed” (temporarily stationed at base x) and “deployed to the battlefield” (sent from base x to wherever the fighting is).

In case you’re worried about my “active civilian imagination,” I’m a 23 year veteran.

And one last bit of advice: maybe you should read the entire thread before commenting. The poster who promoted the ridiculous airdrop scenario that you panned was Magiver… your main ally in this thread

It’s been laid to bed, tucked in, given a warm glass of milk and read a bedtime story.

…Lie the fuck down, my darling, and sleep
For real, shut the fuck up and sleep…

What should have occurred was full disclosure in the first place. When a dog and pony show emerges it immediately begs the question WHY. Why would the WH do this? If it was beyond the expertise of a special ops group to assemble with the proper gear and move to the attack site then it should be a matter of record. If it was not then it needs to be addressed.

Magiver can’t seem to answer several questions put to him on this subject but perhaps you can explain what the Paratrooper Special Ops were going to do about rescuing Ambassador Stevens since Stevens went missing within the first forty five minutes of the attack. He died at a Benghazi hospital under the care of friendly Libyans unbeknownst to any US officials until about seven hours after hearing about the attack. So where downrange were the paratroopers going to go?

Secondly, since the last two Americans to be killed that day were hit by mortar fire that lasted about eleven minutes, how were the Special Ops going to do anything about that. No one knew where the mortar attack was coming from.

So what would it accomplish to risk Special Ops when no one knew about anything they could do to protect or save any Americans in Benghazi that day and night. Thirty Americans got out with Libyan Security Forces helping to guard them.

Stevens dying of smoke asphyxiation and the former Navy Seals suffering a direct hit from an eleven minute mortar barrage at the CIA Annex is a tragedy.

Stevens was a good friend of the people specifically of the people of Benghazi. That is what should be remembered about this incident. An American lost his life serving America but also trying to do some good for the people of Libya.

Nobody suggested this.

I never suggested Stevens could be rescued.

It is a matter of record. There is nothing to support what you think should have been done and then you think because your version of what should have happened didn’t happen then you go conspiracy theory and as a last resort call it all a cover up because what didn’t happen should have happened. But it is obvious to most who study the facts and timeline of what happened that day could not have been averted by some kind of military operation from out of the country and miles away. It was too late on the first to deaths and impossible to avert the second two deaths with a special forces operation in the time and logistics of what was possible.
What was covered up? What dog and pony show. Susan Rice said the first attack was perpetrated by militants with heavy weapons. I don’t believe she addressed the mortar attack on the CIA Annex. So how was it dog and Pony Show for either attack?

The. It was a good thing that an independent, non-partisan investigation has been completed and it’s findings published!

And here’s what they concluded about your proposal that a military response could have arrived quickly and made a difference:

“The interagency response was timely and appropriate, but there simply was not enough time for armed U.S. military assets to have made a difference… The Board found no evidence of any undue delays in decision making or denial of support from Washington or from the military combatant commanders. Quite the contrary: the safe evacuation of all U.S. government personnel from Benghazi twelve hours after the initial attack and subsequently to Ramstein Air Force Base was the result of exceptional U.S. government coordination and military response and helped save the lives of two severely wounded Americans.”

Show us a transcript of the press conference you are thinking of. Susan Rice went on the Sunday Morning News programs.

Rice blamed the attack on heavily armed insurgents for the attack on the Consulate where Stevens was killed. I have never heard any Admin official or the President blame mortar attack on the CIA Annex on the youTube video.
We need a cite … something more than your memory is required.

Tonight at 10:17 PM Magiver put this statement on the forum:

But Magiver’s entire series of posts has been about sending in ground troops from afar to stop the attack on the “Embassy”. Take a look:

Below Magiver references the Consulate that was ransacked. I am not sure if the CIA Annex was ransacked.

But this is clear that Magiver was talking about the “EMBASSY”>

I asked Magiver if the White House left Stevens to die. This was Magiver’s response:

But now just released by Magiver tonight at 10:17 PM

This should be kept in mind when Magiver puts forth his argument regarding Benghazi that the White House left Ambassador Stevens to die.

It should be kept in mind whenever Magiver puts forth any argument.

Remember this when your volunteer from the Mother’s March Against Cognitive Dissonance comes to your door, and give…and give generously!

I was trying to stick to the topic of this thread, but I know exactly what you mean. The sad thing is I heard KT McFarland on WMAL hate talk radio in DC say the same exact thing that Obama left Americans to die in Benghazi. This is a crisis in journalism we are facing.

Like NotfooledbyW, I would also like you explain this statement in light of your earlier post that Stevens was left to die by the White House.

He was left to die. The people who took him to the hospital were locals. No attempt was made by the State Department.

Do you understand the distinction here? whether or not they could have saved him was unknown at the start of the attack.

It doesn’t appear that you read the report. This was never the focus of it and no details were listed. Here is the focus of the report:

As called for by the Act, this report examines: whether the attacks were security
related; whether security systems and procedures were adequate and implemented properly; the impact of intelligence and information availability; whether any other facts or circumstances in these cases may be relevant to appropriate security management of U.S. missions worldwide; and , finally, whether any U.S. government employee or contractor, as defined by the Act, breached her or his duty.

The body of the report goes into great detail about the events at Benghazi. No details of military planning were listed.

What is currently being investigated is that aspect of events. From CNN:
*Those questions range from why a special State Department-led counterterrorism team was not dispatched as the assault was ongoing to whether the terrorists responsible have been identified but administration officials have failed to authorize a capture/kill operation.

‘"We need to identify who – at the level of presidential cabinet secretaries or at the National Security Council (NCS) – signed off on the decision NOT to dispatch a FEST team to Benghazi and determine the basis of that decision,’’ Nunes wrote.
