I love this show too, man. I’d never tell anyone though. You’re right about it being better than Gold Rush, which is pretty weak this season.
I don’t really understand why the gold is just kind of laying on the sea floor. They said something about glaciers, but I don’t really know what a glacier is. Maybe something like a giant frozen river that slowly runs and it scrapes up then pushes the gold out to sea?
I haven’t really seen the show, but I think the situation is that they’re gravel deposits that were laid down during the last ice age when sea level was lower and the Bering Straight landbridge still existed. The glaciers transported the gold from the bedrock in the mountains back during the ice age, just like the on-shore gravel deposits that were mined in the 19th and 20th centuries, but they’re underwater and so were hard/expensive to get at until now.
I like it. Some of the characters are really off-putting, though.
Scott Tempertantrum just grates. Such a baby. Tries so hard to be a tough guy but acts like an entitled 12 year old. So does the guy that’s in love with Emily. Can’t remember his name. Another baby. Nothing’s ever his fault and he pouts like a 12 year old.
I like the Pomrenkys and Vernon Atkison and his crew. Steve is nutty but amusing.
I’m amazed at the amount of gold they suck out of the mud!
Emily Riedel certainly did a foolish thing checking out the tractor. It worked good enough to pull a shed out on the ice! That gave her competition a heads-up and allowed them to buy it out from under her.
Many of the people on that show seem to have ‘issues’ and make even worse that the Gold Rush crew on their worse days.
