I don’t think that’s a rule, and I’m sure if you sum it up the head of the EPA has mostly been a lawyer or business major.

Going back to Clinton, the college majors of the EPA administrators:

(Obama) Gina McCarthy - BA Social Anthropology/MS Environmental Health Engineering and Planning and Policy

(Obama) Lisa P. Jackson - BS/MS chemical engineering

(Bush) Stephen L. Johnson - BA Biology/ MS Pathology

(Bush) Mike Leavitt - BA Business

(Bush) Christine Todd Whitman - BA government

(Clinton) Carol Browner - BA English/JD

Seems like a mix. No comment on how good or bad they’ve done.

Not so much a mix as the last few have had science backgrounds. Hopefully that will become an enduring custom but my scan of the earlier ones seemed to not include any scientists.

Sorry, “requires” was the wrong word, “should have in order to effectively safeguard our resources” is what I meant, but thank you and yellowjacketcoder both.
