Best Aerosmith album

I’ve never been into them (34 years old), but bought Pump on iTunes for no particular reason and find myself listening to it a lot at the gym. Damn, it’s catchy.

Anyway, what other album of theirs should I get? I was thinking Get a Grip, as I recall it coming out the year I graduated High School.

Or maybe Toys in the Attic, but want more of a Pump-like album.

Or I could get both, but really don’t want to spend the money.

For my money, anything after *Draw the Line *kind of sucks-ish. Sure, they hit the big time with Permanent Vacation and Pump, but for pure American Stones rock-and-roll, steer clear of the MTV-generation albums.

Aerosmith (Dream On)
Get Your Wings
Toys in the Attic
Rocks
Draw the Line

Stop there, and you’ll be good. And whatever you do, avoid Night in the Ruts like the plague

For the most bang for your buck, I’d recommend their Greatest Hits (red cover), or Big Ones (a later greatest hits compilation).

I think the best and my favorite is Toys in The Attic. When I hear that album, I almost can’t believe how good they were.

+1

Like many classic bands they had a run of three albums that are about as good as anything out there, IMHO, and thats Get Your Wings/Toys in the Attic/Rocks.

Plus, they recorded those whilst heavily on drugs and on each others’ nerves to the point of dysfunctionality.

***Rocks ***was their best, in my book.

***Toys in the Attic ***was very good, and a close second.

After that… I’m probably the ONLY person who loved Rock in a Hard Place, the album they made right after Joe Perry left.

But if we’re trying to appeal to the OP’s tastes…

If you really liked Pump, then ***Permanent Vacation ***would be the best choice for you.

Rocks and Get Your Wings. Their first five albums were terrific and innovative as all get out. I’ve always scoffed at thems who call Guns N Roses influential and innovative cuz to my mind they are a straight up rip off of Aerosmith. Listen to Sick As a Dog on Rocks, for a good example.

Rocks is my favourite. YMMV

Must vote for the first album, too. Mama Kin is just a wonderful song, as is Make It. Dream On is overplayed to this day, but solid.

Yeah, I can include that, too. Mama Kin is one of my faves…

I’m all for Get A Grip… but thats on a personal level. Cryin, Crazy, Amazing, Livin on the Edge and Shut up and Dance were huge songs for me back in the day… I still LOVE that album.

Fully agree with this. Their earlier stuff is best, back before they transformed into Bon Jovi (to quote my brother Dave).

Um, yeah, you lost me here.

Rocks

The screaming vocal on Back in the saddle is one of my favorite rock and roll vocals

Toys, Toys, Toys… in the Attic!
