Best anti-anxiety medication that worked for you?

Although not a medication, a good therapist can be effective against anxiety.

I’m having good luck with Xanax. I started with 2mg/day in April. My prescriber however recently dropped me down to 1mg, and I do feel something of a difference. I have been picking on myself and a bit more nervous. She was worried I was getting “too complacent”. I’m going to be seeing someone new from now on. I’m not getting “complacent”; I’m depressed!

My prescriber did say that 2mg/day is considered a high dosage. Maybe you could start at 1mg/day and see how you tolerate it?

Take notes before you go to the doctor, so you don’t forget anything. I find that if I don’t bring notes with me, my prescriber tends to steamroller right over me.

Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!

Inderal has been excellent for me as a prophylactic. If I take it well before situations that typically cause attacks it does very well at stopping that negative feedback loop that leads to full blown attacks.

Alcohol and opiates are the only two things that completely eliminae anxiety in my experience, but using them regularly causes far worse problems than the anxiety, and both lose their effectiveness over time.

Until the bill comes in the mail.

Just as an update, I’m already loving Geodon. It makes me not think about food. I don’t have tics and there’s very little of that simmering state of anxiety I’ve been in for so long. I sleep really well and have what I think is a normal amount of energy. I’ve had a really great week!
