The Rutles… another band that owes everything to the Beatles.
Alright, with a nod to the Bonzo Dog Band as well.
So we could conceivably include the Bonzos on here and not feel that we’re making a stretch. After all, this is the band who taught Monty Python to be “silly”, had a Rock and Roll magazine named after one of their songs, “Trouser Press”, and appeared and played for the Beatles in “Magical Mystery Tour.”
And arguably, The Rutles were also the inspiration for Spinal Tap!
The Beatles get my vote all the way.
What was the name of Buckaroo Banzai’s band? Those guys, definitely. Sure, other bands might have lasting impact and create entire genres, but do they routinely save the world and travel through the fifth dimension via overspeed? I don’t think so; it’s no contest.
