Best Burgers

I don’t do fast-food burgers, but there is one place that is a family tradition.

Off a long and twisty road through the seaside hills, somewhere near Santa Barbara, is Jalama Beach. Jalama caters mainly to campers and RVers, though one can get a day pass. The Quantum Clan likes to take the RV down there for a couple weeks in summer and lounge around the beach. Jalama is quite popular with the local surfers, and surfers like a nice hot meal after a day of riding the cool-at-best waves. So, the folks who run the campground added a burger kitchen to the little general store.

They make the BEST darn burgers! Toasty bun, thick juicy patty, real leaf lettuce (none of that shredded stuff), sauce which is something like 1000 Island but not quite, any onions/pickles/tomatoes you want… mmm. Good stuff. And the sea air makes everything even better.

Johnny, I may be prejudiced by only sampling the fairly scuzzy Fatburger in Santa Barbara.

The two things I miss from CA: Fatburger and In-N-Out. Nothing else.

OK, probably the lack of snow, too.

I don’t know if this place still exists but there used to be a place called Henrys

You get a sack full of the burgers and by the time you got home the bottom of the sack was almost falling out from all the grease from the burgers

They were the most greasiest …most drippiest burgers I ever had…man they were tastie!

Of the national chains, I’d have to agree with Wendy’s. Their Big Bacon Deluxe is my favorite.

Miller’s Bar, here in the Detroit area has the best burgers I’ve every had outside my own house.

I’m voting for In-N-Out. Specifically, a Double-Double Animal Style.

Duke, you may be interested in this recipe.

A few votes for Mom 'n Pop places. Everyone else is doing chainstores.

Okay.

Whataburger.

If it’s good enough for Hank Hill it’s good enough for me

Oh!

Interesting how a hamburger can cause other things to get named.

According to the August, 2003 Consumer Reports a “Beefseak Tomato” refers to any variety that grows big enough to cover a burger with a single slice.

OK, the best burgers in the whole freakin’ world came from the hamburger wagon in Miamisburg Ohio. It was, literally, a wagon. They rolled onto a street corner and rolled it away each night. All you could get were burgers and chips. The burgers were a beef/pork mix with salt and pepper, dill pickle and onion. And that’s all. And they were small, only a little bigger than White Castle’s.

Oh my gawd! Were they ever good. The only thing I miss about Ohio.

As far as chains go, [b[Fatburger** is the best, followed by In and Out*.

White Castles, BTW, are Satan’s cow patties. (cow patties being a euphamism for…)

Please.

It’s Whataburger.

Hands down.

You people don’t know what you’re missing.

As indicated by spooje, if a hamburger chain makes the best hamburgers something is seriously wrong.

The best hamburgers in Australia are made at Rochester in northern Victoria. The family that runs the place rears the beef and owns the butcher and the bakery. The magority of their clientele are from Melbourne, about 2 hours drive away. Despite the fact it’s in a prime road junction, the magor chains have not been inclined to open there (and of course, they have beetroot in their burgers).

There’s a small local place called "Fat Mo’s, which has the best burgers in Nashville. It’s a walk-up/drive-thru place run by a guy named Mohammed. I don’t get a Fat Mo - it’s too big, about 8 oz of beef, I think. A Little Mo will do me just fine, though.

StG

I’ve never had Rally’s or In-N-Out, but I just had Carl’s Jr for the first time, and it really is neck-and-neck with Wendy’s, IMHO.

Krystal’s and White Castle are good, and, given the right amount of alcohol in the blood, can be PHENOMENAL.

Local joints? I lived across the street from a burger joint called, erm, Burger Joint, in San Francisco. Fabulous.

I was thinking Fat Mo’s myself. They’ve got 3 or 4 locations around ‘Noshville’ now. Handmade by Arabs! Homeade fries and real shakes, too. The Fat Mo is a killer!

Of the national chains I’d go with Wendy’s.

As previously mentioned, Rallys, In-N-Out, Fatburger and Fudruckers are outstanding. However, the best burger I’ve ever had was at Fat Face Fenners Falloon in Hermosa Beach, CA.

Another vote for Five Guys…In fact, I just had it for lunch the other day. MMMMMMMM!

The only Canadian option is Licks.

mmm … Licks …

You may think that I, as a vegetarian, do not have a vote. Nay, I say, this makes my vote even more legit ! I ate meat burgers there when I was a carnivore (and I remember enjoying them thoroughly), and now theirs are the only veggie burgers I will eat. They are divine.

mmm … Licks …

They also do fantastic ice cream.

Dang it! I forgot to say that of the chains, Hardee’s Six Dollar Burger (for $3.75 or something) is really good.

You know what burgers are awful? Krystals! How can they even call that thing a burger? It is more like an onion and mustard on a roll.

Tommy Burgers beat In-n-Out, Fudruckers, Wendy’s, Whataburger, it beats them all.
