Best damn octogenarian piano player I ever heard

Ever see the movie “Buena Vista Social Club”? Now THAT was one fine documentary about aging Cuban musicians and featured some fabulous performances by them. Ruben Gonzales was one of them; he was the eighty-year old piano player who hadn’t played in years, but once he sat down, it all came back to him.

We just received our new CD, “Introducing Ruben Gonzales”, and you have to hear this guy. He’s a brilliant Latin jazz/Cuban piano player and this CD just soars. We hear several old-fashioned pieces from the 40s and 50s, recorded in a single take or two, without over-production and with maximum Cuban flair. Babaloo this, Ricky. It is just flawless. Anybody else have this CD?

Eubie Blake’s fingers were still limber as he neared the completion of his fifth score.

I really have nothing to add to this other than to say I really enjoyed the subject heading!
