After opening this thread yesterday about Kate and Leopold, I realized that there are some movies I like just because they have scenes with dogs… Yes, I am a complete dog nut!
What are the best movies or scenes with or about dogs? I won’t include Old Yeller in my own list because it’s so sad. These are in no particular order.
As Good As It Gets - Gotta love the Brussels griffon. So cute!
The Shaggy D.A.
Milo and Otis - I love that little pug!
Turner and Hooch - A dog movie with Tom Hanks? How can you go wrong?
That movie with Benji… There’s a cat in in too. They’re people who have died and come back to earth as a cat and dog… I can’t remember.
I really liked the movie “The Truth about Cats and Dogs”. I know Uma Thurma was in it but not sure who were the others that played in it. If you haven’t seen it do so you’ll love it!
No dog thread would be complete without mention of Asta, the irresistable and hilarious star of The Awful Truth, Bringing Up Baby, and the Thin Man movies.
There’s a frankly bizarre scene in Strange Brew (yeah, OK, all the scenes in that movie are bizarre) involving a guard dog. Bob and Doug have fed their dog a case of beer (“Do you think 24 cans will be enough?”). Later on, two cops are staking out the MacKenzie residence. They look up on the roof–and the dog is rolling up the roof. A blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene but it’s a classic.
Also from the movie–the bit where they’ve given the dog the last beer in the house, then their dad asks for a beer. So they pour the beer in the dog dish–complete with dog spittle and bits of dog food floating in it–into a mug. The MacKenzie can-do spirit encapsulated in one swift act.
The Journey of Natty Gann
A wonderful wolf dog and his girl, Natty, hit the railroads during the Great Depression.
Complete with a very young and very adorable John Cusack.
Babe (the first one): Rex and Fly
K-9 - not that great of a movie, but beautiful German Shep.
Favorite: Playing by Heart (all the women have dogs or a cat).
