Poltergeist - man, could that dog act.

As part of [thread=613196] Cheerleading Dropout’s quest to get a good grounding in horror movies, we watched Poltergeist [/thread]. Good flick, but the standout performer was the family dog. The scene where the family sends the young boy to stay at grandma’s, and the dog suddenly looks back at the family and voluntarily legs it and jumps in the cab was priceless.

Incidentally, there is a moment during this scene (1:07 - 1:08 on our version) in which something seems to fall from the window of the cab where the dog is seated. We laughed ourselves sick thinking the dog had dropped what appeared to be poop from the window of the cab, perhaps as a parting gift. Closer inspection suggests a clod of dirt is flicked up from the taxi’s tire.

Overall, good reviews from the family - just scary enough. We’ve also watched Lost Boys, which was similarly well reviewed. Next up: Tremors

^And I want to watch the Blaire Witch Project, too, please

Poltergeist was great even for an old movie. And yes, the dog was the best actor. The poor thing got into the taxi and thought everything was over, but then the stupid people brought him BACK to the very place he’d just cleverly escaped! You got the impression that the dog was the only one who knew what he was doing.

I’d love to see a version of poltergeist 2, and everyone is different except for the dog.
