Best film soundtrack? (Or, YOUR favorite film soundtrack?)

For instrumental, Titanic. Beautiful music.

For songs, I’ve got to go with South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut. A fantastic mix of musical styles, all tied together nicely and hilariously.

Wendy Carlos’s A Clockwork Orange soundtrack. One of the few pieces I’ve owned (in this order) on cassette-vinyl album-CD-remastered CD

What, nobody has said Rocky Horror Picture Show?
RED HEADED STRANGER is also on my list of favorite soundtracks.

Sgt Schwartz

Children of Dune. Slightly less complex than Lord of the Rings, but of very high and consistent quality.

O Brother, Where Art Thou?

The **Oh Brother Where Art Thou ** soundtrack, besides being a pretty big shocker of a best seller, is also a pretty good sampling of traditional bluegrass and roots music.

It’s kind of cheating because the movie is a pop/rockumentary, but “Stop Making Sense”. And “Tin Cup” is a fun light soundtrack.

I liked bluegrass before O Brother, but it really opened my eyes to the old old stuff.

As far as scores go, you can’t get much better than Peter Gabriel’s Passion: Music from the Last Temptation of Christ. Last of the Mohicans and Conan the Barbarian are close contenders, though. Vangelis’ 1492 is pretty good, too. The soundtrack for David Lynch’s Dune is the best (if not only) argument for the exsistence of the band Kansas you’ll ever hear.

For pop soundtracks, I like High Fidelity, The Big Lebowski, Magnolia (which is basically Aimee Mann’s Bachelor No. 2 with a couple Supertramp tracks thrown in), O Brother Where Art Thou?, Pulp Fiction (naturally), and Grosse Point Blank.

As a Bernard Hermann fan,I think his work in The Ghost and Mrs Muir added a sense of depth that the movie wouldn’t had otherwise had.I wish I had the soundtrack

The Truman Show has a wonderful score by Philip Glass and some other artists. It’s great for a rainy day…

Also loooove The Big Chill soundtrack!!

I love this one.

My other favorites are Lord of the Rings, and Dracula (the Frank Langella version).

Oh yeah…my number 2 favorite: Lost Highway. An amazing movie with an absolutely amazing soundtrack. David Lynch fucking knows his music. Mr. Eddie’s little jazzy theme song that would play whenever he appeared was so awesome…

One of my favorites is the soundtrack to Something Wild, which included tracks by Celia Cruz w/David Byrne, New Order, Oingo Boingo, Jerry Harrison, UB40, Fine Young Cannibals. However I won’t say it’s my absolute fav because there was a lot more music in that movie than is on the soundtrack, esp the Laurie Anderson /John Cale music.

For the kind of soundtrack that is a bunch of songs gathered together and used in a film, I’m pretty partial to Repo Man

For music specifically composed for a film, nothing beats The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

I put a lot of miles on my White Nights soundtrack cassette. Thanks for reminding me to see if it’s out on CD.

Malcolm rollerskates to “Funkytown” by Lipps Inc.

Whoops, wrong thread. Ignore that last post.

Un Homme et un Femme
Two for the Road
The Pink Panther
The Sandpiper
Bladerunner

Any soundtrack by Serge Gainsbourg or Ennio Morricone is interesting. Then there is also Cowboy Bebop.
