GameFaqs today has a top ten list of the best “fourth” games in a series. Resident Evil 4 was number one, which I nearly agree with.
What, in your opinion, are the best fourth games/books/movies/whatever in a series?
I’d say:
Game: Myst IV or Resident Evil 4
Books: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Movies: Hmmmmm…Superman IV? No. Indiana Jones 4? No. Star Wars 4(Phantom Menace)? Definitely not. Star Trek IV? Maybe, but not quite.
Somebody is going to have to help me out with the movie one.

Plays: Either Henry V or Richard III by Shakespeare.
(The names are deceptive: the main run of Shakespeare’s history plays is divided into two tetralogies:
Richard II
Henry IV, Part 1
Henry IV, Part 2
Henry V
Henry VI, Part 1
Henry VI, Part 2
Henry VI, Part 3
Richard III
And the second group, in historical order. was written before the first – a bit like the Star War series – so there are two possible number 4’s.)
Mega Man X4 is my favorite of the X series, although an argument can be made for X or X2 being overall better games.
Movies: Thunderball, the 4th of the James Bond films was pretty good.
Comic books: Avengers # 4 re-introduced Captain America to the world.

Final Fantasy IV (aka Final Fantasy II in the U.S. on the Super Nintendo)
Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s fourth stage show was Evita. I consider it his best.
The Fourth is the best day of July.
Ah, but Phantom Menace is really Part 1. Part 4 is A New Hope .
Flashman at the Charge is the 4th in the Flashman series, and I think it’s the best.
Mort in the Discworld series was very good, though some of the later books were even better.
Foundation’s Edge is also quite good.
Tommy by the Who was their fourth studio album release (not counting Magic Bus , which was a compilation album of singles and live material).
ultrafilter:
Led Zeppelin IV.
Hadn’t thought of it myself, but YES!!

Sea of Silver Light , book 4 of the Otherland Series by Tad Williams was outstanding.
I just wanted to second Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Resident Evil 4 was a good game, but kind of overrated. RE1 (way back on the PS1) was one of the scariest experiences I’ve ever had, and RE2 had really cool gameplay, with the multiple endings and all.
Or maybe I just got too old for the Resident Evil series.
Stephen King’s **The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass **is (IMO) the best of the series, and it’s not even all that close.

Johannes Brahms’ Fourth Symphony. (Beethoven’s, Bruckner’s, and Nielsen’s Fourth Symphonies get honorable mention.)
Bela Bartok’s Fourth String Quartet.
Lou Gehrig, the Pride of the Yankees, was #4
