Best free CD burner?

Or should I get a license. Is there one that’s great?

Windows? iOS? Linux?

I use Imgburn.

I think this will do better in IMHO so that folks can give their opinions as well as personal experiences.

Moving thread from GQ to IMHO.

Windows 10. (I just saw one that only listed 2000 and vista. Probably not being supported now)

BurnAware (free edition) is fantastic or an oldie but goodie called BurnAtOnce. Just test out a couple and see what you like. The ones mentioned above shy away from being bloatware so IMO are better than most options, not to mention less/no ads built in, or annoying registration reminders.

I’m using CDBurnerXP and it works fine for me. Audio, audio mp3, data. CD and DVD.

I use Ashampoo Burning Studio Free. I can’t claim it’s “the best” because I haven’t tried many others. But it has served me well for years. Windows 7 and 10.

I used CDBurnerXP for years (Windows XP, Vista, 7). It worked great, but on some of my computers the Verify phase took about 10 times as long as the Burn phase, for some reason. This was a known problem, apparently.

I use ImgBurn now (Windows 10). No such problems, but it’s a bit less user-friendly.

Do you realize there are built in facilities to do this?

Once again in the search for best freeware solutions I recommend gizmo’s freeware. Proper reviews of software by real users. They have never failed me in any category.

In this category they recommend ImgBurn. I have used it at home for years. Other reviewed products are BurnAware Free, which I have used at work for years, CDBurnerXP and** InfraRecorder**.

I second this. Best freeware one I’ve used. The only issue I have with CDBurnerXP is that it’s nontrivial to change from burning an audio CD to a data CD (and back). There ought to be a single button in the menu bar. If there is, I haven’t found it yet.

This is an allied question: for Windows 10 I have been looking for a DVD ripper that can rip a DVD concert, and rip the tracks individually, rather than the whole DVD as one file. Does such a thing exist?

Not to be pedantic, but do you mean rip a DVD by title or chapter (or something else)? For example, create a single video file of a title? Or, do you mean edit the DVD so you have the files necessary to create a DVD with only “the main feature?”

Yes, there are applications to do this.

Sorry, I have just discovered how to do it!
