Writer came with Nero. Nero wants me to upgrade, before I can even write one. This sucks. Especially since I have good reason to distrust Nero, right out of the box. Does anyone have a link to a free DVD writing software that might work with my new toy?
return the burner that came with nero and pay 50 bucks for a LG external with usb. i used nero for years to burn cd’s and love it but it’s completely unreasonable when it comes to dvds (unless you’re going to do almost exclusively double layer) because it chooses the type of blank dvd you can use, and it’s never one you have and never a cheap one. The LG burning software is just as reliable and ten times easier to use, and the LG burner as good as you’ll get since sony seems to be out of the market.
I use Burnaware free. It is pretty good. You can create different types of discs with it such as data, audio or video. Free Burning Software and DVD Copying Software - BurnAware
Thank you, by-tor, it looks interesting at first glance. Digging deeper before I decide for sure and actually install, so if anyone has any others, please post…
I really likeImgBurn myself, fwiw. VERY easy to figure out functions, too (for those less tech-oriented/experienced, etc)
OK, don’t know how the recent “issues” the board had affected what was posted, but I’m going to give a try to the surviving suggestions. It’ll take me a few days, but I’ll come and report back. Thanks for the suggestions. I shall return, Inshallah…
I’ve always been very happy with CD Burner XP…
Gizmo (http://www.techsupportalert.com ‘the best freeware reviewed & rated’) has a fairly detailed listing of the pros & cons of a bunch of them.
Their top 3 rated are ImgBurn, BurnAware, and CDBurner XP – all of which have been recommended by people here.
another vote for ImgBurn
Here’s a third. ImgBurn is good.
