I’m only asking this as a technophobe. Y’see, I had NERO 7 when it first came out, then I got 8, then I got a huge virus and lost it all…
I have a new computer now, and whilst I have a DVD burner, I really don’t have any (non-trial) software for it. So, anyone out there have / use NERO 9? I’m considering snagging a copy off Ebay on-the-cheap if I can, but first I thought I’d check out the Dope on it, so-to-speak. And if not NERO, does anyone suggest any other burning software?
If you just want something to burn CD’s and DVD’s, I recommend Deep Burner. The free version will do the trick for most people, and the pay version is still a better option than Nero, which tends to suck pretty hard.
In searching for Nero 9 online reviews it seems to have developed a rep for having become like Norton AV and adopted a huge appetite for system resources and loading tons of start up monitors and applets along with the OS at boot up. Resource hungry programs I can deal with but programs that keep littering your boot sequence (like Itunes and Adobe) with unwanted monitoring and update apps drive me out of my tree.
Depends on what you want to do w/ Nero. If you just want to burn CDs and DVDs, then don’t waste your money. Just download CDBurnerXP, which is an excellent free and easy to use program.
If you want to use any of Nero’s myriad bloatware…ahem…“value-added” features to transcode audio, video, author DVD menus, print out CD covers, etc., then Nero provides a convenient all-in-one package for all those functions. Personally, I prefer to use other, standalone freeware utilities to do those tasks.
Nero was a much better piece of software when they opted for the weird pun on “Burning Rome,” but it’s increasing ironic that their software suite is references the archetype of blithely plugging away at the extraneous while everything around is reduced to chaos. Very apropos.
