Long story short: most of my net worth is in the form of antiques and collectibles, many of which I was lucky enough to aquire because they’re unmarked and hard to identify but valuable if you know what you have. My health is none too great, and although no one expects me to drop dead anytime soon, my family - which knows little to nothing about these objects - would feel a lot better if I maintained some sort of list as to what these things are, what I paid for them, and what they might be worth on eBay.
I know a collector I absolutely trust who is an expert in about half of the things I own. The other half, she knows very little about. We decided that the best way to handle these would be for me to keep a running list, with pictures, of this information, so that she can help my family disperse my collection should anything happen to me. I’d like to be able to send her a CD of this information quarterly-ish so she’s always in the loop, and so there’s a back-up copy off-site.
I’m sure I can cobble together something useable from all the programs I have around here, but I’d prefer to save myself the time if there’s a readily available commercial package. The less the end user has to install and fiddle with, the better.
The requirements:
-
Must run on a PC
-
Display a picture of the item in the listing
-
Provide customizable fields for name, age, date, price paid, value, etc.
-
Be searchable
Any recommendations? A search of the SDMB archives turned up software specifically geared toward books, CDs, and the like, but I need something much less tied to a specific type of product.
