Best hat for fat balding man?

Pretty self-explanatory. Need suggestions for a decent hat for sun/rain protection that doesn’t look ridiculous on a fat guy. Imagine Drew Carey before he lost weight or the computer programmer Nedry from Jurassic Park.

Let’s also assume baseball caps/trucker hats are out. Those are too dumb to consider. Should go with jeans, boots and a button-up long sleeved work shirt.

Maybe panama hats, boonie hats or Aussie slouch hats…? I’m not a hat wearer so not sure what would look decent on a fat guy past 30.

I’m a fat balding guy, and when I don’t think a ballcap would work for whatever I’m doing, I really enjoy wearing my newsboy hat. Looks pretty good and is flattering on a bigger guy.

I’m a fat guy in my 30s, and I wear either a cowboy hat or a bush hat. Opinion does seem divided on whether it looks ridiculous though… My advice is to find a hat you’re comfortable wearing, and if people think it looks stupid, it’s their problem.

Sorry, but I’m not usually a hat person. If I’m going to be out in the sun a lot doing yard work or recreation, I usually wear a baseball cap. Anything else looks stupid on me.

Never tried one, but can’t imagine it would make me look like anything other than a fat, white wannabe pimp.

I find most hats uncomfortable, and I don’t like baseball caps because I need some ear/neck protection. My once-luxurious hair is now thin enough that I get a sunburned scalp after just a short time.

I love the Crocodile Dundee bush hats, and the straw hat Sam Neill wore in Jurassic Park. I don’t look like Sam Neill, though. I look like a fat Zach Galifianakis.

I tried a few hats and whole bunch of caps at my local quality hat shop, and on me his type of Stetson “newsboy” cap looks just about the best.

Why not get some of Ron’s spray on hair and avoid the hat altogether?

Seriously, I think everyone looks good in a fedora EXCEPT for young, slim, too cool for school hipster types. Everyone else looks awesome in them.

I don’t know. I do own a fedora, but I’m sort of ambivalent about the way it looks. It seems to require a kind of attitude that I’m not always up to. The cap I linked above is more low-key and works pretty much all the time.

Don’t worry about being up to the attitude, dude. When you put on the fedora, the attitude comes with the hat. People look at a man in a fedora, and they see a man with the attitude. Trust me, it’s true.

I have no idea what my hat is called. It’s straw and has a wide brim, and has a piece of cloth around it with golf stuff on it. It goes well with my beach bum image and keeps my head from burning.

“Fat balding man past 30” pretty much sums up my SO’s physical appearance, and he wears his Tilley hat every day. I think his model is the T7MO.

Failing that, newsboy caps and flat caps work really well.

even one step further, how imposing/intimidating/cool can you look if you shave your head completely and skin tight? Not there yet myself, but getting there, celebrate the baldness!!
