That’s what I was going to post. There’s no way it can compare with, say, Casablanca, but that’s easily the best kiss of the past decade (at least that I’ve seen).
Ouch, someone at Hershey’s needs to check IMDb. Justin Henry played Molly’s little brother in “Sixteen Candles.” The kiss in that flick was between Molly and Michael Schoeffling.
Er, in any case, I’ll cast my vote for Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis in “Witness.” So lovely and yet so very sad, the essense of movie romance.
Most of the best are already listed, but:
Michael Vartan (swoon!) planting one on Drew Barrymore in Never Been Kissed.
Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson in Brief Encounter.
On a goofy note, the fluttery red cartoon kiss blown by Jessica Rabbit to Bob Hoskins in Who Killed Roger Rabbit?.
That whole scene is a blatant rip-off of the a scene in Gone With the Wind. The dialogue’s a little different, obviously, but close enough to be called “rip-off”.
And that’s not a slam on Empire, I’m a devoted fan of Star Wars, et. al.
The Salt Vampire and the redshirt.
The girl I was dating at the time thought that Tom Selleck and Kevin Kline had a hot one in In and Out. Meh. Now if it was Johnny Depp…!
Bugs and Elmer.
Ross and Rachel. “He’s her lobster!”
Boo Boo Kitty Fuck and Jay
That scene in Galaxy Quest. “Oh, that’s not right!”
I can’t believe I’m the first one to nominate the kiss between Selma Blair and Sarah Michelle Gellar in Cruel Intentions… truly a moment in cinematic history!
Huh? I didn’t know that, but it seems logical. Still, it has to be one of the most erotic moments (with two clothed, well bathing-suited protagonists) on film.
That would make you squooshed, not whooshed.
I would like to offer a new film. I just saw Monster. Now, I know she’s a pretty desperate character and evveythang, but that kissing/groping scene in the alleyway is so torrid. ( no, NOT because it’s two women… ). She clearly was totally taken with Shelby, and couldn’t wait to kiss her. It was sweet, and hungry and quite the kiss.
IMHO.
I have to say, no, not really. I seem to recall that in that scene, she’s really having an argument with Han and Luke just happens to be around. She kisses Luke merely to get Han’s goat, not because she’s after Luke, and it works. It seems like Luke could’ve been anyone - Chewie would’ve worked, had he been there.
Hee hee - now Leia kissing Chewie, that’s fascinating.
Snicks
Speaking of hot, how about “Body Heat”? It’s been years since the last time I saw it – I can’t remember now if Kathleen Turner and William Hurt did anything so straightforward as kiss. note to self: swing by the video store on the way home.
Ralph Fiennes and Angela Bassett finally, FINALLY, kissing during the jubilant Millenium New Years celebration at the end of Strange Days. You think its not going to happen, he’s walking away, she stares after him longingly, and then… he comes back for her. Truly one of my favorites.
I’ll second Euty
and I’ll add
Tim Robbins and Jennifer Jason Leigh in The Hudsucker Proxy (two kisses IIRC)
It’s in the film:
Leia: “I’d rather kiss a Wookie!”
Han: “I can arrange that!”
Lili Taylor and River Phoenix in Dogfight. A movie where a marine goes out with an ugly girl - on a a dare - just before he gets shipped out to some place called Viet-somethingorother. It was so tentative, like neither one was sure whether to procede. They had so many false starts and awkward moments. For some reason, that’s really hot.
Oh, and I forgot, for less conventional kisses, and really hot…
Tampopo – the oyster scene.
Tampopo – the egg scene.
The Monica Belluci kiss scene in Matrix Reloaded. Then again, Monica Belluci kissing a lamp post would still make it into any top 10 list :D.
Spiderman would’ve been the perfect kiss if he’d been so overcome he fell off his web. Just fell straight down out of shot, with a sound effect as he crumpled into a heap.
I nominate Matt Stone kissing Trey Parker at the end of Baseketball.
Helena Bonham Carter and Julian Sands in A Room With A View.
Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer in The Sound of Music.
Cherie Lunghi (Guinevere) and Nicholas Clay (Lancelot) in Excalibur.
And on a different note, Aragorn kissing Boromir’s forehead after “My brother…my captain…my king.” He is a captain and a king, to be able to do that with no homoerotic overtones.
Not so. A few years ago, Life magazine published the whole set of photos photographer Alfred Eisenstandt (“Eisie”) took in Times Square that day. Here are two other kissing couples.
