It’s a late Sunday night in times of corona, I’m listening to the new Pearl Jam album (not their best) and watch TV with one eye. So I caught the last 20 minutes of Red Sonja, a very cheesy typical 80s action vehicle for Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Of course, after all the struggles, they get each other in the end, and the final scene is this kiss. I immediately thought that this is the most laughable and unsexy kiss I’ve ever seen, but I guess there are still worse in movie history. What do you think?
I don’t want to count non-erotic kisses, such as a mafia-kiss-of-death, but I’m foremost going after kisses that were meant to be romantic and turned out laughable. Though actually, if an intended kiss-of-death turned out horrible, I’ll let it pass ;).
Yeah, that was pretty poor. For some reason, most British cinematic kisses have all the heat of a dead mackerel. They are the masters of the clean-miss kiss, where they end up smooching each others’ chins and upper lips.
Pretty poor sword fighting as well. Unless the goal is to slam the swords together in a way that is totally non-threatening and intended to dull/damage the sharpened edges.
What about the Grace Kelly/James Stewart kiss in Rear Window, preceded by the infamous grainy shot of Grace leaning in for the target?
It’s been years since I’ve seen that film, but I remember most of the scenes with Kelly being pretty hot. Especially when the police detective notices the laid-out negligee, and Kelly, and gives Stewart the raised eyebrow.
I have to admit that I totally misremembered that special kiss from Notorious. I just rewatched it, and it was really hot and very racy for the times. I must have confused it with something other, I don’t know. Sorry, Hitch, I take it back.
ETA: I must have thought of Frenzy. Every sex scene in that film was disgusting. Everything and everyone in that film was disgusting. But a great film nonetheless.
