Good flipping night! How can you people be on the Straight Dope Message Boards and not nominate American Pie? :smack:
we left it for you!!
I don’t know if it’s 10 minutes but The Outlaw’s Green Grass and High Tides is pretty happenin’.
“I will do aaaaaaaaaanything for love…”
Meatloaf
Just kidding.
Autobahn, by Kraftwerk
The Fall of the House of Usher, Alan Parsons Project
Dogs, Pink Floyd
Corporal Clegg, Pink Floyd
2112, Rush
Gates of Delirium, Yes
And You and I, Yes
Starship Trooper, Yes
…heck, I think the average duration of a Yes track may be over 10 minutes!
The 10-minute limit cuts down the field quite a lot - if we’re sticking to it, then “Macho City” (Steve Miller Band), at 16’34".
If we’re allowed to drop it to 7’29", then “Blue Monday” (New Order).
I think we need to compare music collections. I have everything on your list except Autobahn, by Kraftwerk.
Supper’s Ready-Genesis
About 24 minutes long.
Disco Inferno by The Trammps. Burn that mother down!
11 minutes of ass shakin’ beats for those who can still bust it for that long. (Kills me every time these days :(. sigh)
Maybe because it only runs 8:35?
This, Lacrimosa’s Sanctus, and SUNN 0)))'s twelve minute cover of For Whom the Bell Tolls.
How 'bout the Grateful dead’s " Alligator" from their Anthem of the Sun album. IIRC it was over fifteen minutes
It’s a mere 7:33, but “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones is a personal favorite of late. Also “Blues de Luxe” by Jeff Beck, which clocks in at roughly the same length.
Someone was talking about Gershwin earlier. It’s nothing by today’s standards, but in its time Cole Porter’s “Begin the Beguine” was famously long. And if you sing all the verses of some of his list songs, you’d be going on for quite a while… (“Let’s Do It” comes to mind – brilliant lyrics)
Coo coo
Time Has Come Today - Chambers Brothers
“Telegraph Road” - Dire Straits - 14:15
If you haven’t heard Love Over Gold, you need to get a copy. It’s a great underrated album.
I will second nominations for the following:
Master of Puppets
Dogs
and Hey, Jude
And add:
One by Metallica, the long, live version with extra gunfire and an extended drum cadenza
13 Autumns and a Widow by Cradle of Filth
Tornado of Souls and Holy Wars/The Punishment Due by Megadeth… hell, anything from Rust in Peace that meets the criteria of the OP
I’d like to add some Fear Factory, but I can’t think of much that’s really that long.
Oh crap. 10 minutes is the MINIMUM. Nevermind, then. :smack:
"Billy The Mountain": Frank Zappa and The Mothers
"Utopia Theme": Todd Rundgren’s Utopia
Street Life - the Crusaders
