Lots of good albums this year - the top 4 are all modern classics. A tough choice - for me it’s between Phoenix and St. Vincent - I’m going to go with Phoenix just because I feel like St. Vincent will make the poll again.
Only familiar with the Flaming Lips and Mos Def selections. (And, thanks to you folks, now I appreciate Neko Case – but haven’t heard her 2009 album).
Went with Mos Def.
Fever Ray - a big surprise to someone like me, who only knows (and likes) her (Karin Dreijer Andersson ) from her Röyksopp collabos, but this was lovely, crazy shit - kind of reminded me of Diamanda Galás , if Diamanda was more into electronica. Also got me to check out The Knife, her band with her brother, equally good.
I gave the Knife album to my aunt, who is a professor of the intersection of art theory/practice and neo-Marxist political activism. She loves it.
Hm. I’m hoping we can get at least one more vote for something already voted for - otherwise I’m going to have to do 8 entries for one year when I do my best of the decade polls.
This tornado loves you…
A lot to choose from this year, these were all favorites at some point:
- Animal Collective: Merriweather Post Pavilion
- Phoenix: Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
- Neko Case: Middle Cyclone
- Dirty Projectors: Bitte Orca
- The xx: xx
- The Avett Brothers: I and Love and You
