Down to the last two polls, and this one’s a surprisingly strong year. Between Chance the Rapper, My Bloody Valentine, Janelle Monae, Neko Case, Savages and David Bowie, I’m not quite sure how I’m going to vote yet. Probably Savages, but I’m going to mull it over a bit. What say you guys?
I’m going with mbv. It was a bit of a slow grower for me, but it’s by far the record I listened to most from that year, and I eventually ended up growing to love it almost as much as Loveless. I also enjoyed Wire’s showing from that year, although it didn’t make the list. I enjoyed the Savages record, but it still felt a little young and incomplete to me. I’m excited to hear what they come up with if and when they have a follow-up.
Yeah, I saw both MBV and Wire live that year. Great shows. Thankfully, for MBV they handed out earplugs before the show.
Yeah. I missed Wire, but that MBV show was the first (and only one), I’ve ever seen. I’m thankful for the earplugs, too, but I had some just in case. The volume wasn’t too bad for the majority of the show, but I don’t understand how some people were able to get through the Holocaust section of “You Made Me Realize” without them. My wife had left the theatre before the encore and she could hear the music across the street in the parking lot in our car with its windows rolled up.
The only one of these I know is Savages, and I don’t like it enough to vote for it…
