Best Present Ever

Go back in your memories to when you were young. Remember birthdays, Christmas or other holidays past. What was the best gift you ever received? One that still sticks with you to this day. What made it special?

When I was 4, I got a playmobil castle. I can’t remember being more excited than when I was then. I don’t know whether I asked for it or not but at the time I thought it was just the coolest thing ever, we still have it now, and it has probably logged 1000’s of hours (inluding brothers and sisters of course).

I don’t have to go back very far. My best friend in the world, I’ll call him D, who buys presents for no one, gave me a box of Spiderman cereal. I will always cherish it because it shows that he truly knows me.

It really does not matter what a gift costs. The fact that the giver knows you and how much you’ll appreciate it, means so much more.

Honey

Thank you D, I hope you like the framed stamps I gave you.

My Lionel Train Set

The Lego Monorail was sweet.

As a kid: when I was about 7 my aunt and uncle got me three huge glossy Disney picture books.

As an adult: a digital camera (for eBay sales) and my very first Vuitton wallet. Both these presents have been from my SO, which figures since he knows me the best out of anyone.

For my third birthday (didn’t we have a thread citing some guy who claims you have no memories before, what, six or seven?) I received from my grandfather a pineapple truck.

It was a metal truck ~14" long, with a hand crank that drove the escalator on the back as well as the extended conveyor belt out front, and it was green. Just like the truck out front!

We lived in Hawaii then (1956), across the road from a pineapple plantation. To me, at the time, there could not have been a better plaything. That was the Xmas when dreams came true.

I think it was my birthday; not Xmas. Rhapsodizing, I guess.

When I was 7, my aunt (who was both a nun and a medical researcher) gave me one of her used microscopes for Christmas.

I can’t imagine what could have been cooler than that!

The best present I got as a kid was a Creepy Crawler set. I told my Dad that it would only cost about 6 dollars (which was still a lot of money then). We go to the toy store and I was devastated to see that it was twice that amount. I guess I looked terribly crushed because Dad looked down at me for a few seconds and then said, “What the hell…let’s get it.” I think I promised to give him my 15 cent weekly allowance for the rest of my life.

We made so many bugs - even my Mom’s coffee klatch got into it. I loved watching how everyone came up with different ideas on how to make their bugs, how they sometimes came out really crappy looking, and how we all seemed to have so much fun even when getting burned.

Can I go back a few months?

This summer I took up motorcycling again, mainly because of my good friend, Frank. I hadn’t ridden in about ten years, so I picked a rather tame motorcycle to purchase (Kawasaki ZR-7S). The day after it was delivered, Frank and I went to lunch and on the way, Frank starts talking:

"Many, many years ago, in the dawn of road travel, it would take days to travel a relatively short distance. Not only was travel slow, but it was also dangerous and a lot of mishaps happened to the carts and carriages on their way. The people of the time blamed this on the work of demons, so they came up with a way to protect themselves. They knew that demons hate the sound of bells, so the travellers hung bells on their carts and the ringing would keep the evil at bay.

"Motorcyclists share a lot in common with those folks way back then, in that we are prone to demon-infested roads. The little bastards like to leave sand at the apex of turns, oil spots at stoplights, and they blind other drivers to our presence. But we seasoned riders know how to scare them away.

With that, Frank pulled out a little brass bell and gave it to me.

Best. Present. EVER.

as Lazlo tries to hide the fact he hit return outside the text window and it posted his reply.

When I was a wee little lad my mom(gone now) walked into a 7-11,and walked out with little plastic trinkets in hand and handed them to me. Back then we weren’t doing so good and even then I understood this. I thanked her and acted as though it was the best present ever. R.I.P. mom…

The first year they came out, my mom gave me “Trivial Pursuit” for Xmas. Friends have bought me updates, but the first game is the best. Thanks Mom.

When I was little I had a huge skirt obsession, I wanted a big long skirt that would swoosh back and forth when I walked , you know those? Well, for christmas that year, my mom got me this big, long skirt with purple flowers on it,that was big around the hips so it swooshed back and forth when i walked. I’m pretty sure thay mom got it at the goodwilll or something, but I loved it nonetheless because it was exactly what I wanted during those times when we didnt have a lot of money.

As a child I got one of those ‘Monday Night Football’ games. I was always bothered by the fact that my brother got whatever he wanted but I realized that he campained for them. So I campained for this and when I got I exclaimed out loud

I did it! I did it!

It was a fun game to and my brother found it impossible to ‘accidentally’ break.
As an adult well, the non-x-rated one would be my surround sound system.

Creepy Crawlers! Oh the memories that brought back. I remember having special trays where we could make power rangers and ninja turtles and assorted what-nots.

When I bought a house, my sister gave me a rachet lopper. That thing can cut through a 2" limb. I’ve enjoyed it tremendously.

In one of my family’s home videos from christmas years ago, upon opening one of my presents, I apparently blurted out “Wow! Legend of Zelda!!! This is the best present ever!!!”

And of course later on in the video, I’m playing Nintendo. Strangely though, I’m playing another video game. Kung Fu if I remember correctly.

A few years ago, I got a JellyBelly jellybean machine. Still my favorite present of all time, I think.
