I know, it is a guilty pleasure. But I do work in fashion retail and I just need to so some research for out little boutique. . . or maybe I just want to shop. I frequent a few, but am bored and need more brands to branch out into. So, where do you look for (if not buy) clothes online? and shoes and bags and jewelry etc. . .
or maybe, instead, I should spend just a moment on previewing my thread. I want to do some research for our boutique.
I’m an Amazon freak myself, I don’t do Ebay. There is one nice shopping tool I ran across the other day though. It’s a toolbar that runs “in the background” while you are shopping. When you choose an item, it will look for the best price for that item on other websites. They are constantly adding new features and new products to their database.
The toolbar is NOT adware, they do NOT keep any information on your shopping habits, it’s free, and you do not need to register to use it (so you will NEVER be spammed for using this toolbar).
I love it myself, it not only finds the lowest price for items I am considering, it guides me to new e-commerce sites I might not have found on my own.
I frequent bluefly.com, eluxury.com, bananarepublic.com, jcrew.com, anntaylor.com, gap.com and brooksbrothers.com (mainly for blouses). If I want a pair of trendy, one-season shoes on the cheap, I head over to bandolino.com or ninewest.com.
I like amazon and overstock dot com. Amazon has a better selection but Overstock has really great deals and shipping is always $2.99 (sometimes freeeeeee)
I like eBay but you really have to watch the S&H charges. I’ve seen it as high as $100. My first love is thrift stores though. 99% of the stuff is not for me but occasionally I’ll find something that makes up for it. It’s all about the thrill of the hunt.
For shoes, I love Zappos and check it everyday. I don’t actually buy all that often tho’; only when I see something amazing I can’t find in town.
I don’t do much clothes shopping on the web other than retro sites like Daddy O’s and Stop Staring. And I occasionally order from the Gap since I know what size I wear there.
For just browsing trendy stuff, I like Girl Shop, a collection of online boutiques. I also always check out the goth stuff at Hot Topic.
Most of what I buy online is either book, dvd, or cd, so if I have a title in mind, I start with Froogle. I like Amazon a lot. Overstock is fine, but they’ll hit you with a five-buck re-stocking fee if you return something. eBay, I just don’t know – the consumer protection seems weak to me. I’ve used it exactly twice, and in neither case was the item exactly as described.
Froogle’s led me to some other hot-spots, though I can’t think of them offhand. I’ll have to try that activshopper thingy. Thanks, cc!
tremorviolet, Zappos might be one of my new favorite hotspots. Thanks! As far as books go, I prefer to go to bookstores, probably for the atmosphere. I buy all my music off iTunes.
A few sites that I do frequent that haven’t been mentioned: revolveclothing and shopbop (just to browse) and urban outfitters. So much to explore. . .
