As someone who is guilty of posting a number of said album polls, I couldn’t disagree with you more about their obnoxiousness. I mean, this is the kind of thing my friends and I can (and do) spend hours discussing and debating.

Having said that, though, I will concur with your admonition to spread 'em out a little, as they then will likely get more foot traffic, so to speak.

How many thousands of albums have been released in the U.S. alone? Must they all have a poll this week?

“The List” there mentions a song called “Weenie in a Bottle”, which is actually by somebody named Hawaiian Ryan. I don’t know if it’s the same song you’re thinking of, though. It’s probably a parody of Christina Aguilera’s “Genie in a Bottle”.

But the only really weak track on the album is “That Boy Could Dance” (the Kinks did it earlier and better with “Jack the Idiot Dunce”)

I always hated that song, until I saw a fan-made video for it, which used scenes from Napoleon Dynamite. Suddenly, the song finally made sense to me.

I didn’t say it wasn’t, and indeed, it’s not listed on the Not Al Page. I was addressing the “Penis in a Bottle” question specifically, and offering the Not Al Page as a resource for future questions. For example, I have a coworker who keeps insisting “I Like Small Butts” is a Weird Al song. It’s not.

If I Could Make Love to a Bottle (parody of Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce) never got an album release, but you can probably find it on youtube. Neither did any of Al’s other racier stuff that he was writing back in the early 80s (I’ve never even HEARD Orgy On My Own, but it was part of his setlist back then, along with Bottle). Dead Car Battery Blues even contained the spoken line “aww shit” at the end!

By the time his parents started going to his concerts (the first time they saw him live was on the In 3-D tour) Al decided he was going to be a clean comedian. Running With Scissors was a bit edgier (transvestite was used on 2 separate songs!), hence the name, but by that day and age, it was pretty tame to what else was being done in the musical comedy world.

Also, the songs which got rejected from Polkas on 45, due to non-permission (but were still played in the concert version): Der Kommissar, 1999 (the first of a number of Prince denials), Bad Boys Get Spanked, She Blinded Me With Science, Stairway To Heaven

Anyway, I’m torn between Eat It, Rocky, Nature Trail, and Brady Bunch. I can’t ever hear Safety Dance or watch the Bunch without hearing that song. But in the end, I think I’ma go with Eat It. That song is what put Al on the map, I gotta give it the props.

As far as the number of polls go: if one person starts a bunch of polls in a row on the same subject, we’ll ask him to take a break. (This was the case with MTCicero and the Metallica polls, and he agreed, which we appreciate.) There are a lot of ‘best song on album X’ polls right now, but other than MTCicero’s, they’ve been started by a different people and I don’t think it’s gotten to a point where we would step in and tell everybody to stop. It’s a fad right now and it’ll calm down.
