Best Spanish language children's cartoons?

So I’m in a bit of a pickle. This fall I’ll be returning to school, after a hiatus of almost 10 years. I never came close to finishing my degree, and am attempting to do so now. The state of Oregon requires two years of Spanish as a prerequisite for entrance to university. I plan on using the down time this summer to start brushing up on basic Spanish, so I’ll have a head start when I begin classes.

Now then. I want to incorporate my studies into my kids’ lives. Much easier to learn a second language as a child than as a 30 year old. So what I would like to do is find some Spanish language cartoons that we all can watch… either cartoons originally written in Spanish or English cartoons (Arthur, Curious George, Max and Ruby, etc. No garbage) dubbed into Spanish. I’m not looking for bi-bilingual stuff like Dora or Dragon Tales – I want to immerse in the language.

We have Dish network satellite service, but haven’t been able to find anything useful. Can anyone sorta point me in the right direction?

And does anyone know of a Spanish language news program? Like a Spanish version of BBC World News or News Hour?

Many thanks in advance

Here is BBC Mundo, and it includes some videos.

Would some DVDs from old cartoons, like Loney Tunes/Merry Melodies, have Spanish as a language option? Those classic cartoons were what I watched the most during my childhood, dubbed to Spanish.

YouTube has plenty of videos of common cartoons (Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, The Simpsons) dubbed to Spanish.

Not a cartoon, but a well known, classic, child friendly program is “El chavo del ocho”, starring comedian Chespirito. Another program by the same group is “Chapulin Colorado”, the basis for the bumblee man in The Simpsons (but better). They’re available on DVD, or you can check your Spanish stations, as they may be aired weekend mornings (even though they’re from the 70s).

Thanks for the info. Looney tunes et.al. would be great in Spanish, as would Animaniacs, Tiny Toons etc.

I’m not internet/computer savvy… is it possible to take a YouTube video and burn it onto a DVD?
