The Folksmen were spun off from Spinal Tap
The New Main Street Singers were made up of members of the original Main Street Singers.

This rule is flung down and danced upon in the “Deerslayer” tale.
I thought of another one.
Blink-182 begat the spinoff bands +44 and Angels and Airwaves while also indulging the side project that was Box Car Racer.
The Beat (English Beat)> General Public and Fine Young Cannibals
The Specials> Fun Boy Three and I think some influence on Bananarama
Hunh??? The Stones came together in 1962, and The Who in 1964. The Small Faces, which basically evolved into The Faces when Steve Marriott left and was replaced by Rod Stewart and Ron Wood, didn’t begin until 1965.
Indeed, members of the Faces did go onto join the Who and the Stones, but how can the Faces “spin-off” bands that pre-dated it?
If anything, the Faces were a spinoff of the Jeff Beck Group, which had featured both Rod Stewart and Ron Wood.
And, of course, Rod and Ron are both fairly tall, which is why the band had to drop “Small” from their name. All the original members of the band were very short, whcih is why they called theselves “Small” Faces in the first place.
Speaking of members of The Who, Led Zeppelin was *almost" a spin off–Keith and John considered joining w/Page and Beck at one point. This was after an argument/power struggle that was a regular occurence in The Who. According to Entwistle, he came up with both the band name and the idea for the LZ’s first album cover.
By that standard, you’d have to call The Kinks a “spin-off” band of Argent, since its bass player and drummer later became members of The Kinks. Speaking of which, Argent probably counts as a spin-off band of The Zombies.
Fair point, though it looks like they’ve only created two new studio albums in the past 20 years.
