Best Summer Job

Well, summer is drawing to a close, but for some reason I am thinking of this now. What do you feel is the best summer job for a person of high school age? The worst? I’m going to be working next summer, maybe you guys can give me some suggestions.

The best summer job i had was working as an intern for a State representative. You never really have to do much besides filing and answering phones. You meet interesting people, and make great contacts that can help you in the future even if you have no interest in politics. Of course you usually need to have some contacts to get the job…

Deckhand. Great Lakes bulk freighter (ore boat): SS John Sherwin, '71; SS Charles M. Beeglhy, '72.

Sorry. I missed your “high school” qualifier. I was a deckhand in college.

I’m in the same position as the OP poster (SDP). I would also like your input.

To SDP: I’ve got a lifeguard friend who likes their job. I worked for a friend by filling out insurance forms for 8/hr after taxes. That was decent money. Fast food joints don’t pay great, but are easy to come by.

Summer after my Junior year of HS I worked an assembly line for Tellabs. It paid $8/hr, and the work was simple, so no responsibility and your mind could wander. It was doing hand insertion for electronics though, and my guess is most assembly lines suck.

Best summer job I ever had was working for Coke through a local bottler. We drove around and set up promotional booths or walked the beach handing out promo items/freebies. Sure beat a real job.

Two summers ago, I worked as a paddling pool attendant.

Besides the chemical shizazz, all I did was sit in the sun, have water fights and play with the kids.

Man, I loved that job.
